Even Cecilia couldnโt help but get excited.
โRachel, donโt you want that prize too? I mean, itโs really good. If I win, I wonโt have to stress about money for the next two months.โ
Rachel thought about how sheโd be leaving soon, and how she didnโt really have anything to give Cecilia before she left. Then, an idea came to her.
โHow about this: if weโre not on the same team, and I end up winning, Iโll give you my share of the prize.โ
Ceciliaโs eyes widened. โSeriously? Youโd give me your prize?โ
โYeah. I already have a phone and a laptop. Plus, I helped out with LS Enterpriseโs project this time. Technically, the company should be giving me a bonus anyway.โ
Cecilia was so moved that she hugged Rachel tightly. โRachel, I love you so much!โ
The teams were decided by drawing lots. Rachel and Cecilia drew their slips one after the other.
Rachel unfolded hers. She was in Group 2. She immediately asked Cecilia, โWhich group are you in?โ
โGroup 6.โ Cecilia held up her slip to show her. Cecilia was a little disappointed. โI really wanted to be on your team.โ
Rachel let out a relieved sigh. โNo worries. Think of it this way: if we were in the same group, our chances of winning wouldโve been cut in half.โ
โYouโre right.โ Cecilia giggled and squinted.
Not far away, Samantha glanced at her own slip. She then turned quickly to look at William. Her cheeks were flushed, and her eyes were full of anticipation.
โWilliam, which group are you in?โ
โGroup 3.โ
โI am too! That means weโre on the same team!โ Samanthaโs cheerful voice rang out brightly through the crowd.
William then walked over to Rachel and asked, โWhich group are you in?โ
โGroup 2,โ Rachel replied honestly.
โWant me to switch with someone so weโre on the same team?โ
โNo need.โ Rachel declined gently, even justifying it from Williamโs perspective. โIf people found out we switched teams just to be together, it might cause gossip. This partnership with LS Enterprise is important. It could determine whether the project moves forward smoothly.โ
Honestly, there probably wasnโt a single man who could resist a wife this understanding.
Williamโs expression instantly softened, and the harshness in his expression faded away. He placed a hand on her shoulder. โ Rachel, having you say that really means a lot to me. I was worried you might be upset.โ
Rachel offered a carefree smile. โWhy would I be? This is work. Itโs not like itโs something else. I get it.โ
William raised an eyebrow. โSo, youโre not upset that Iโm teamed up with Samantha?โ
โWhatโs there to be upset about? Sheโs a colleague. Her momโs sick. As someone who went to school with her, and now as her boss and friend, itโs only right you help out.โ
William was caught off guard by how composed she was. Sure, she had never confronted him or caused a scene before, but he had always assumed she was just quietly holding in her anger.

Yet she didnโt mention anything, and he couldnโt bring it up either. Doing so mightโve just drawn more suspicion.
Strangely, William felt a pang of guilt toward Rachel. He reached out and gave her a hug. โRachel, Iโm really lucky to have a wife like you.โ
Rachel didnโt hug him back. Instead, she just gave him a light, polite pat on the back. โGo on. Make sure everything goes smoothly today.โ
William nodded. โOkay.โ
Rachel was just about to go find her group when suddenly she heard a group of people nearby gasp in surprise.
โNo way. Are they saying Mr. Hunt is participating this time?โ
