Chapter 170
Rachel followed Tammy as the latter led her somewhere increasingly desolate. By then, she started sensing that something was wrong. She pulled Tammyโs arm to stop her from going forward.
โWhere is Cecilia? Did they really come all the way here? Letโs call them first.โ
Rachel looked at her phone to dial Ceciliaโs number. Suddenly, Tammy pressed her hand.
โMs. Lloyd, Iโm sure Mr. Hunt told you all about it.โ
Tammyโs voice no longer sounded as innocent as before. Instead, it was as cold as ice; coupled with the chill of the wind in this desolate forest, it sent chills down Rachelโs spine. Rachel inhaled sharply, suddenly realizing that Tammy probably had an ulterior motive in bringing her here. She looked tense.
โYou shouldnโt be asking me that, since youโve already guessed as much.โ
โYouโre probably feeling all smug that Mr. Hunt rejected me,โ Tammy said with a self-derisive smirk.
Rachel was confused. โWhat do you mean by that?โ
Tammy suddenly shoved Rachel with a look of disgust on her face.
โDrop the act! You want Mr. Hunt for yourself, donโt you? You love the attention and special treatment youโre receiving from Mr. Hunt while feeling secure in your position as Mrs. Lewis. Ms. Lloyd, how shrewd you are!โ
Rachel was stunned by the stark contrast between how Tammy looked right now compared to her usual adorable and innocent demeanor. She really needed a lesson on how to judge oneโs character. Before, she had thought Samantha was as mild and harmless as a lamb when the latter first joined the company. It was only after a few interactions that Rachel realized what a wolf in sheepโs clothing meant. Rachel thought about how she spoke up for Tammy before Tyler, and really wanted to slap herself hard. She looked coldly at the young lady before herโone she had thought was so gentle and lovely before, yet she now wished she could strangle.
โSo, what do you mean? Do you see me as your rival? Do you want to pick a fight with me?โ
โI just canโt stand the sight of you!โ Tammy said through gritted teeth. โIf it werenโt for you, Mr. Hunt would definitely take a liking to me. Since youโre with Mr. Lewis, just stay with him and quit being such a two-timer! Who are you trying to kid with that phony innocence of yours? How are you better than I am? At the very least, my hearing is intact. Do you really think a deaf person like you is worthy of Mr. Hunt?โ
Rachel truly didnโt want to hold it against Tammy. Yet, Tammy insisted on using her disability against her, rubbing salt into her wound. In that case, there was no point in her trying to be nice to Tammy.
โWhat about you? How much better do you think you are? If you really became deaf, would you be able to figure out what people are saying just by reading their lips?โ Rachel shot back.
โItโs your own fault that Tyler doesnโt fancy you. Donโt blame it on others and make them enemies in your imagination. Whatโs more, there are so many other men out there. Why get so fixated on Tyler Hunt alone?"
โYou blame everything else when he doesnโt like you back, but have you considered the fact that it might be his loss that he doesnโt fancy you? Youโre at the prime of your youth, young lady. Be proud of who you are, wonโt you?โ
Rachel spoke in quick-fire succession like a drumfire, completely overwhelming Tammy, whose ferocity subsided momentarily. Tammy probably didnโt expect Rachel, who usually didnโt speak much, to be so sharp with her words. She stood rooted to the ground, blinking through her confusion as she stared at Rachel in a daze. A moment later, her fair skin took on a reddish hue.
โWhat right do you have to say that of Mr. Hunt? Why are you butting into my affairs? As long as you keep your distance from Mr. Hunt, heโll pay attention to me sooner or later!โ she screeched indignantly.
