Chapter 171
Rachel felt her brain failing her. She was sure that Tammy had lost all cognitive ability, leaving only a romance-riddled brain in her skull. There was no way Rachel could talk sense into someone like that. As the saying goes, you could never wake someone pretending to sleep.
โFine, take all the time you need and give it your best shot. Weโll see if Tyler pays you any attention at all.โ
With that, Rachel turned to leaveโand then realized she couldnโt figure out the way back.
Damn it!
She never thought she would fall into Tammyโs trap when she followed the latter here.
After a few unsuccessful attempts, Rachel went back to Tammy and grabbed her wrist. โTake me back.โ
Tammy sneered. โThink about why I even brought you here in the first place. Would I let you go back so easily? Do you know how badly I was humiliated by Mr. Hunt because of you? He said that even if youโre deaf, youโre still a hundred times better than I am! Why? Why does he find a married woman like you better than me?โ
Rachel knew Tammy was the one who put the blame for Tylerโs rejection on her. Based on what she knew of Tyler, he wouldnโt bother explaining himself to Tammyโnot with that romance-riddled brain of hers. Rachel became collateral damage.
She shrugged and looked at Tammy in disdain. โI am better than you.โ
Tammyโs entire body shook with anger. Suddenly, she charged toward Rachel and shoved Rachel to the ground. Caught off guard, Rachel fell. By the time she got up, Tammy was no longer around.
She suddenly panicked and ran forward for a short distance, but she saw no sign of Tammy.
โTammy!โ Rachel yelled.
But no one responded to her. She pulled her phone out to call for help, but it received no signal in this area.
Rachel really wanted to slap herself hard. Being a sitting duck was no solution, and the sky was turning dark. She had to find a way to get back. Thankfully, she could somewhat rely on her good memory, which took her along a familiar-looking path.
Very soon, she saw a fork in the path. Rachel couldnโt for the life of her remember whether she took the left or right path. The fork in the road may seem insignificant, but she knew that taking a wrong turn might mean sheโd never be able to find her way back. Whatโs more, she wasnโt familiar with this forest.
Suddenly, she heard a womanโs voice.
โRachelโฆ Rachelโฆโ
Rachel thought she must be hearing things. Why would she be hearing Samanthaโs voice, of all people?
Very soon, however, she saw a figure approaching her and confirmed that it was indeed Samantha.
Samantha hastened her footsteps when she saw Rachel. โRachel, I finally found you!โ
Rachelโs brows furrowed instinctively. โWhat are you doing here?!โ
โI saw you walk here with Tammy. I heard from our colleagues that she confessed to Mr. Hunt but was rejected, and you were apparently the reason he rejected her.โ
Rachelโs heart grew cold at Samanthaโs explanation. Tyler was indirectly causing her doom. If even Samantha heard about it, the rumor must have spread like wildfire amongst their colleagues. Rachel assumed that the Lewis family had also heard the rumors being spread. If the project was brought forward, she wouldnโt need to face them.
Rachel looked defeated. The priority right now, however, was to find her way back.
โSince you managed to follow us, you should remember the way back, right?โ
โYes, Iโll take you back.โ
Rachel followed Samantha but couldnโt shake off feelings of doubt over why Samantha was so kind-hearted as to come find her and lead her back.
