Chapter 189

Who wouldโ€™ve thought William didnโ€™t even plan on getting a divorce?

William rubbed his temples in frustration. โ€œI havenโ€™t thought that far ahead yet. Weโ€™ll deal with it when the time comes. Donโ€™t worry, Samantha wonโ€™t pressure me. She already told me that being with me is enough for her. She doesnโ€™t care about status. She said whatever I decide, sheโ€™ll go along with it.โ€

Cassandra nodded, pondering the situation. โ€œBut that can only work for now. Thereโ€™s no way this setup will last. If Rachel finds out about Samantha, with that temper of hers, sheโ€™ll cause an uproar. You canโ€™t be fooled by how calm Rachel seems. She may not fight or argue on the surface, but if she ever discovers whatโ€™s going on between you and Samantha, sheโ€™ll turn the entire household upside down.โ€

The more Cassandra spoke, the more irritated William became.

โ€œMom, can you not create unnecessary drama?โ€

โ€œThen why wonโ€™t you divorce Rachel?โ€

William rubbed his chin. His expression was tense. Feeling stifled, he yanked at his tie in agitation.

โ€œRachel lost her hearing because of me. Mom, donโ€™t bring up her deafness in front of her again. If she hadnโ€™t stepped in front of me that day, Iโ€™d be the one who became deaf.โ€

Cassandra scoffed. โ€œAnd what if she only did that to get close to you? Maybe she just saw a chance and took it.โ€

She was getting more pleased with herself by the minute.

โ€œYou think I forgot how many women were chasing after you back then? Our family never lacked options. And let me remind you, whether or not you end up divorcing Rachel, she cannot get involved with Tyler. That would be a complete disgrace to the Lewis family!โ€

At the mention of Rachel and Tyler, Williamโ€™s expression darkened even further. โ€œI already warned her.โ€

Truth be told, he hadnโ€™t paid much attention even when the two of them started interacting.

While Cassandra and William were downstairs planning how to keep Rachel away from Tyler, upstairs, Samantha had already arrived at Rachelโ€™s bedroom door. Without so much as knocking, she pushed it open.

โ€œRachel, there you are!โ€

Rachel was startled by Samanthaโ€™s entrance. She looked up, saw Samantha leaning casually against the doorframe, and frowned.

โ€œMs. Judd, as a guest, do you not know how to knock before entering someoneโ€™s room?โ€

Samantha faked a smile as she looked at Rachel. โ€œI figured even if I knocked, you wouldnโ€™t hear it, Rachel.โ€

Rachel pursed her lips. โ€œAnd if your boss couldnโ€™t hear you knocking, would you still just walk in unannounced?โ€

Samanthaโ€™s smile faltered. She bit her lip, clearly reluctant, but in the end gave a few half-hearted knocks on the door.

Rachel gave a satisfied smile. โ€œSo, Ms. Judd, what brings you here?โ€

โ€œOh, nothing much,โ€ Samantha said breezily. โ€œI just wanted to show you this bracelet and see if it suits me. Itโ€™s such a fine piece of emerald, and Iโ€™m still young. Iโ€™m not sure I can pull it off.โ€

As she spoke, she raised her wrist to reveal the bracelet. Rachel instantly recognized it as Cassandraโ€™s favorite emerald bracelet.

It was an heirloom that was traditionally passed to the daughter-in-law in the Lewis family.

Back when Rachel had married into the Lewis family, Cassandra had refused to pass it to her because she didnโ€™t like her. Now, she had given it to Samantha, a woman visiting their home for the first time.

Rachel sneered on the inside.

She couldnโ€™t force something that wasnโ€™t meant to be.
