Listen to this chapter:

Tylerโ€™s fingertips brushed against the undone buttons of Rachelโ€™s shirt. His touch barely grazed her skin, yet even that felt like a jolt of electricity numbing through her entire body.

The contact she expected never came. Rachel glanced down and saw that Tyler was buttoning her shirt up, one button at a time. She looked at him in confusion. When she finally opened her mouth, her lips were trembling slightly. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ she asked.

Tyler shot her a sideways glance. His usual nonchalant expression was completely gone, replaced by a chilling, piercing coldness. โ€œWhat do you think youโ€™re doing?โ€ he countered.

Rachelโ€™s mind went blank. โ€œI just thought that if you didnโ€™t mind that Iโ€™m married, youโ€”โ€

โ€œOh, so you do remember that youโ€™re married.โ€ His tone was scathing.

Rachel frowned. Her thoughts were a mess. What did he want from her? She was completely thrown off. Rachel decided to speak her mind.

โ€œI thought about it. You donโ€™t need money, and you donโ€™t need power. The only thing I can give you is this.โ€

Tyler slid his hands into his trouser pockets and leaned down close to her face. His voice sounded nonchalant, but somehow it still gave her the tingles. โ€œSo what, you think Iโ€™m desperate for a woman?โ€

Rachel suddenly realized how wrong her words sounded. โ€œNo, I didnโ€™t mean it like that.โ€

It was true. A man like Tyler could hardly be desperate for female attention. Honestly, even if she threw herself at him, he probably wouldnโ€™t even bat an eye.

Tyler frowned. He gave off a cold aura. Rachel felt a crushing pressure bearing down on her.

โ€œRachel, if your mother found out what her precious daughter is doing right now, I wonder whether sheโ€™d roll over in her graveโ€ฆโ€

Rachelโ€™s pupils contracted, and her face instantly drained of all color. Tyler always knew how to strike where it hurt the most, and he never missed. His words didnโ€™t just sting; they gutted her.

At that moment, Rachelโ€™s spinning mind snapped back into clarity. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Mr. Hunt. I was too impulsive. I shouldnโ€™t have done that.โ€

What sheโ€™d done wasnโ€™t just offensive to Tyler; it was humiliating for herself.

Seeing her return to her senses, Tylerโ€™s sharpness finally softened. The hostility in his gaze melted away, and he went back to his usual careless self.

โ€œKnowing youโ€™re wrong and correcting it, thatโ€™s good,โ€ he said casually. Then, after a pause, his tone turned serious again. โ€œBut let me make this clear. What happened today, I can let slide. But I donโ€™t ever want to see you pull something like that with any other man, including William.โ€

He emphasized the last part word by word.

Rachel didnโ€™t fully understand why Tyler was making that kind of demand, but since she still needed his help, she bit her tongue. He was the boss now.

โ€œAlright,โ€ she answered.

Tyler finally looked satisfied. โ€œIf you donโ€™t mind, go make me a cup of coffee. The machineโ€™s in the kitchen.โ€

The sudden shift in topic caught Rachel off guard, but he hadnโ€™t flat-out rejected her request. Did that mean there was still room to turn things around?

It was only a cup of coffee. Honestly, if thatโ€™s all it took, sheโ€™d be happy to brew coffee for him all afternoon.
