Chapter 300
William fiddled with the hem of his shirt. The veins bulged in his forehead, and there was a look of intense guilt in his eyes.
What the hell had gotten into him today? No matter what happened, he shouldnโt have laid a hand on Rachel. He definitely shouldnโt have let her get hurt.
Samantha could tell that even though William was physically by her side, his mind had long since drifted to Rachelโs ward.
โWilliam, if you really canโt stop worrying, then just go stay with Rachel. Iโm fine here. The baby shouldnโt be that fragile. If something really does go wrong, then maybe that just means it wasnโt meant to be,โ she said softly. โAfter all, it picked the worst possible time to cause trouble.โ
William turned to look at her and asked, โWhat did the doctor say?โ
Samantha lowered her head and cast a brief glance at her lower abdomen. โNot much. Just that the fetus is unstable and needs monitoring. If nothing happens tonight, we should be fine. But if I start bleeding, Iโll have to return to the hospital immediately.โ
William frowned. He still had to wait and see how tonight went, but Rachelโs condition was completely unknown. How was he supposed to wait that long?
He stood up, grabbed his phone, and said, โRest for a while. Iโm going outside to make a call.โ
Samantha nodded obediently. โOkay.โ
William stepped out and quickly dialed Cassandraโs number.
As soon as the call connected, he asked, โMom, howโs Rachel doing?โ
โSheโs stable for now. Donโt worry, her lifeโs not in danger. But as for when or if sheโll wake up, they canโt say.โ
Williamโs expression darkened. โWhat did you say? She might never wake up?โ He sounded like he couldnโt believe what he just heard.
Hearing that William was still fixated on Rachel, Cassandra tried to talk some sense into him. โSon, can you be a little more realistic? Rachel might never wake up, and youโre still hung up on her?โ
But Williamโs thoughts were racing, and he wasnโt listening to anything she said. โMom, what if we switch to a different doctor? Maybe someone better? Would that help?โ
Cassandra gasped in disbelief. โAre you crazy? You still want to switch doctors? Iโm telling you straight up. Her brainโs injured. Changing doctors wonโt do a thing. Itโs all up to fate now.โ
Williamโs voice was stern. He could barely conceal his anger. โMom, Rachel is my wife. If thereโs even a chance to save her, Iโm willing to try.โ
Cassandra was furious. โWhatโs wrong with you? Have you lost your mind? God is giving you a way out, and you still donโt get it. You need to focus on Samantha now. Sheโs carrying your child!
โRachel means nothing. Itโd be better if she didnโt wake up. If she does, letโs see how you plan to deal with that mess.โ
That was the last straw for William. Just hearing her say that made his heart clench with frustration.
โMom, can we not talk like this during such times?โ
Cassandra gave up arguing. From her perspective, Rachel probably wouldnโt wake up anyway.
โFine, fine. Iโll just say this. After all these years, Iโll finally get a grandchild, and if anything happens to it, itโs on you. Youโll be the death of me.โ
With that, Cassandra hung up without waiting for a reply.
Williamโs grip on the phone tightened as he frowned.
He still wanted to go see Rachel. This whole thing was his fault, but he couldnโt just walk away from Samantha either.
