Chapter 309
The doctor couldnโt help but interject after overhearing their conversation. โIf you donโt report it to the police, and the patient is still alive somewhere, wouldnโt you miss the opportunity to rescue her?โ
Hearing this, William turned and shoved a thick envelope into the doctorโs palm.
โDr. Warren, I heard your familyโs been going through a rough patch lately. Take this. It might help you get through it. You understand what to say, and what not to say, right?โ
Lenny Warren glanced at the weighty envelope in his hand and hesitated for a moment, but in the end, he nodded. โYes, Mr. Lewis. Donโt worry. I wonโt say a word that shouldnโt be said.โ
Cassandra still wasnโt at ease. โThen what do we do now?โ
William had an empty look in his eyes. โIf the Lloyd family asks, we say we donโt know. She vanished. Maybe she woke up on her own and left.โ
โBut what if she was kidnapped, and the kidnappers come asking for ransom? Wouldnโt that give us away?โ Samantha added.
โThen we say weโre just as surprised. We know nothing about it,โ William replied coldly, brushing the responsibility off without a care.
Although Lenny had taken Williamโs money, deep down he couldnโt help but think, โThis family is ruthless. None of the praise about them online was true."
Lenny had believed William was the most devoted husband in all of Yurelia City, the man every woman had a crush on.
But now, the mask was off. When it came down to it, seven years of marriage could be discarded like trash the moment it became inconvenient.
Lenny could only shake his head helplessly. He was just a doctor and was powerless against people like them. All he could do was silently pray for Rachelโs safety. No one knew if she was dead or alive.
But no matter how much William tried to cover things up, word still made its way to the Lloyd family.
Jim and the others rushed to the hospital not long after.
Jimโs face was ashen, and his steps were hurried. He shoved open the door to the ward and stormed in.
William stood there with a tense look on his face. This time, Jim gave him no chance to speak. He grabbed William by the collar and punched him square in the face.
โWhere is Rachel?! I asked you, where the hell is she?!โ
William didnโt fight back. He simply took the punch and lowered his head. โIโm sorry, Dad. This is my fault. You can hit me as much as you want. Iโve already sent people out to search for her. The moment we hear anything, Iโll let you know.โ
Cassandra couldnโt bear to see William get hit. She rushed forward and shielded him.
โHey! Jim, who gave you the right to hit my son? Your daughter married him. She didnโt sign her life away to the Lewis family. Yes, weโre responsible, but you canโt pin the entire thing on us!โ
Jimโs face was dark with rage. His hands trembled as he pointed at William. โWhat did you say before I left? You said youโd stay by Rachelโs side until she woke up. Itโs only been a few hours, and now youโre telling me my daughterโs just vanished? That she just disappeared into thin air?โ
Standing nearby, Yvette was equally confused. โWhatโs going on?โ she thought.
Hadnโt she already contacted someone to inject the drug into Rachel? She had clearly told them to make sure Rachel stopped breathing and then leave immediately.
But that personโs phone had been unreachable ever since, and she had assumed the plan had failed.
And now Jim was saying Rachel had gone missing.
