Chapter 330
Rachel didnโt understand. Jim was in good health when she left. How did things change so much in just a few years? Did Sasha treat him poorly?
The doctor added, โHe probably has something gnawing at his mind. I heard the nurses say that when he was sent to the hospital for emergency resuscitation, he kept calling for someone named Rachel. That person is probably the one troubling him. Rachel is your mom, isnโt she?โ
Rachel gave the doctor an awkward look. โNo.โ
โOh. Anyway, he survived this time around, but things are still not looking good, so do be mentally prepared.โ
With a glimmer of hope in her voice, Rachel asked, โIs there no other way?โ
โNot at this point.โ
โThank you.โ
Rachel said nothing further, turning around to make some calls. She knew some doctors from abroad.
As she walked out while looking at the phone with her head lowered, she accidentally bumped into someone.
โIโm sorry, I wasnโt paying attention,โ she quickly apologized.
โMs. Lloydโฆโ The man said in disbelief, his voice laced with a hint of uncertainty.
Rachel looked up and saw that it was Xavier. She wasnโt expecting to bump into someone she knew at the hospital.
Since he saw her, she could only greet him out of courtesy. โDr. Jenkins, itโs been a while.โ
Xavier was aware of what had happened to Rachel back then. No one knew of her whereabouts. Some even claimed that she ran away with another man. Xavier had only met Rachel a few times, but his instincts told him that she wasnโt one to do that. Other people claimed that she was no longer alive as she was left in a vegetative state.
Xavier took a while to recover from his shock, and stuttered, โYouโฆyouโre still alive.โ
Rachel nodded, her eyes bright and lively. โYes, Iโm still alive.โ
โBut after so many years, whyโฆโ
โDr. Jenkins, my dad is in critical condition. Iโve got to go.โ Rachel couldnโt explain to Xavier all that had happened back then at this point.
She was about to leave when Xavier called out to her. โMs. Lloyd, pardon me, but I have advice for you regarding your dad.โ
Rachel stopped in her tracks and turned around, looking back at him with doubt in her eyes. โDo tell.โ
โI know you are anxious to save your dad, but from my perspective, I recommend that you donโt reanimate him.โ
Rachel frowned. โWhy do you say so?โ
โIโve read your dadโs reports, and his organs are failing. Coupled with a heavy emotional burden over the years, heโs been suffering from late-stage liver cancer. Forcing him to stay alive will only doom him to being dependent on these machines to live. You might as well give him release.โ
Rachel blinked, his words dealing her a huge blow.
Xavier sighed. โThis isnโt your dadโs first time here at our hospital. Iโve chatted with him and heโs very worried about you. He doesnโt know whether youโre dead or alive, and heโs most concerned about that.โ
Rachel never expected her departure to affect Jim so negatively. She thought no one would care that she left. She was chased out of the Lloyd household back then, and seldom returned. She never expected her weak father, who was always so servile to her grandfather, to care so much about her.
