Chapter 330

Rachel didnโ€™t understand. Jim was in good health when she left. How did things change so much in just a few years? Did Sasha treat him poorly?

The doctor added, โ€œHe probably has something gnawing at his mind. I heard the nurses say that when he was sent to the hospital for emergency resuscitation, he kept calling for someone named Rachel. That person is probably the one troubling him. Rachel is your mom, isnโ€™t she?โ€

Rachel gave the doctor an awkward look. โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œOh. Anyway, he survived this time around, but things are still not looking good, so do be mentally prepared.โ€

With a glimmer of hope in her voice, Rachel asked, โ€œIs there no other way?โ€

โ€œNot at this point.โ€

โ€œThank you.โ€

Rachel said nothing further, turning around to make some calls. She knew some doctors from abroad.

As she walked out while looking at the phone with her head lowered, she accidentally bumped into someone.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, I wasnโ€™t paying attention,โ€ she quickly apologized.

โ€œMs. Lloydโ€ฆโ€ The man said in disbelief, his voice laced with a hint of uncertainty.

Rachel looked up and saw that it was Xavier. She wasnโ€™t expecting to bump into someone she knew at the hospital.

Since he saw her, she could only greet him out of courtesy. โ€œDr. Jenkins, itโ€™s been a while.โ€

Xavier was aware of what had happened to Rachel back then. No one knew of her whereabouts. Some even claimed that she ran away with another man. Xavier had only met Rachel a few times, but his instincts told him that she wasnโ€™t one to do that. Other people claimed that she was no longer alive as she was left in a vegetative state.

Xavier took a while to recover from his shock, and stuttered, โ€œYouโ€ฆyouโ€™re still alive.โ€

Rachel nodded, her eyes bright and lively. โ€œYes, Iโ€™m still alive.โ€

โ€œBut after so many years, whyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œDr. Jenkins, my dad is in critical condition. Iโ€™ve got to go.โ€ Rachel couldnโ€™t explain to Xavier all that had happened back then at this point.

She was about to leave when Xavier called out to her. โ€œMs. Lloyd, pardon me, but I have advice for you regarding your dad.โ€

Rachel stopped in her tracks and turned around, looking back at him with doubt in her eyes. โ€œDo tell.โ€

โ€œI know you are anxious to save your dad, but from my perspective, I recommend that you donโ€™t reanimate him.โ€

Rachel frowned. โ€œWhy do you say so?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve read your dadโ€™s reports, and his organs are failing. Coupled with a heavy emotional burden over the years, heโ€™s been suffering from late-stage liver cancer. Forcing him to stay alive will only doom him to being dependent on these machines to live. You might as well give him release.โ€

Rachel blinked, his words dealing her a huge blow.

Xavier sighed. โ€œThis isnโ€™t your dadโ€™s first time here at our hospital. Iโ€™ve chatted with him and heโ€™s very worried about you. He doesnโ€™t know whether youโ€™re dead or alive, and heโ€™s most concerned about that.โ€

Rachel never expected her departure to affect Jim so negatively. She thought no one would care that she left. She was chased out of the Lloyd household back then, and seldom returned. She never expected her weak father, who was always so servile to her grandfather, to care so much about her.
