Chapter 338
โWell, there you have it. Since I knew yelling wouldnโt help, why would I scream and distract you? Thatโd just get me killed faster,โ Rachel said.
She didnโt care about appearances anymore and slumped right down on the ground.
โBesides, Mr. Hunt, with your current status? If youโre not afraid of dying, why should I be?โ
Tyler bent forward slightly. His cold fingers gripped her chin and tilted her face up, forcing her to look at him. Rachelโs beautiful eyes held a mischievous glint. She smiled slyly.
It was still the same face, but nothing like five years ago. Now, there was a fierceness in her and a strength simmering beneath the surface like a lioness whoโd finally discovered her claws.
He stared at her intently. The rough pad of his thumb brushed slowly against her jawline. He smiled, but his voice remained flat. โSo, you want to pay the penalty and pretend the contract never happened?โ
โThatโs right. I know the agreement includes a breach clause. Iโm willing to pay it in full and call it square.โ
Seeing that Tyler had brought up the contract himself, Rachel thought maybe he was open to negotiation.
But he suddenly let go of her and clicked his tongue.
โDo you think you can buy me off that easily?โ
Rachelโs brows instantly furrowed. โWhatโs that supposed to mean, Mr. Hunt?โ
A cold, arrogant smile appeared on Tylerโs face, and the air suddenly felt tense around them.
โYou still donโt get it, do you?โ He said, suddenly leaning in close. โOnce you sign a contract with me, it doesnโt end just because you say so. It ends when I say so.โ
His breath was hot against her ear, but Rachel felt a chill run down her spine like a bucket of cold water had been poured over her.
His voice echoed in her ears like a spell she couldnโt break.
Rachelโs gaze suddenly turned fiery. โMr. Hunt, you and I have no personal feud. You donโt have to go this far over a contract.โ
Tyler took a few slow steps toward the apartment building. He casually tucked his hands into his pockets. He looked relaxed, but his gaze was cold.
โYouโre the one who signed it. I donโt take kindly to people backing out halfway. You signed it, so now you fulfill it.โ
Rachel instantly regretted ever agreeing to that contract with Tyler. He was even more difficult than William. She couldnโt help but ask, โWhy me?โ
Tyler thought for a moment before responding. โMaybe your singing is just terrible enough to knock me out.โ
Rachel choked on her breath.
Some things never changed. Tylerโs tongue was still as sharp as ever.
Whatever. She wasnโt planning to stick around anyway. Once she wrapped things up here, she could vanish just like she did five years ago.

The moment she thought it, Tyler, as if reading her mind, looked over with a cigarette between his lips and a piercing glare in his eyes.
โDonโt even think about pulling the same stunt again. That trick only works once. If I donโt see you at ten tonight, Iโll drag you over myself.โ
Rachelโs face darkened instantly.
Tyler keyed in a code, and the apartment door opened. That was when Rachel realized heโd driven them all the way to his suburban apartment.
โYou couldโve at least taken me home!โ she called after him.
This was the suburbs. Getting a cab here was nearly impossible. Jim was still waiting for her at the hospital.
Tyler sounded indifferent. โFigure it out yourself.โ
The door slammed shut behind him.
Rachel clenched her fists tightly and looked at the long, desolate road stretching ahead.
