Chapter 35
Rachel figured that once she had set everything in motion, she would just leave and let them deal with the fallout. Whatever they said afterward was their problem, not hers.
โAlright, Iโll agree,โ Tyler said, โbut only because of your mom.โ
He stood from the steps.
Rachel watched his back. โIโll come by tomorrow to discuss the details.โ
Tyler paused, his hands in his pockets, and glanced at her over his shoulder.
โYouโre really eager to start a rumor with me, arenโt you? Should I invite the press tomorrow, hold a little press conference, and have William come by to see how his wife teamed up with his competitor to trap him?โ
Rachelโs forehead creased. How many women had chased after him for him to be so full of himself? She had no choice but to play along with him.
โIโll wait for your call. You can set the time and place.โ
Tyler smiled, clearly pleased with her response. โNow thatโs more like it.โ
Rachel rolled her eyes. He could have just told her what he wanted instead of making it sound so dramatic. It wasnโt like him to be so roundabout.
Still, the situation had taken an unexpected turn. She had thought it was a lost cause, especially since Tyler hadnโt stopped her when she left LS Enterprise yesterday.
Thank goodness this was the only project they were working on together. Once it was over, they would never have to see each other againโbecause if they did, Rachel was fairly sure Tyler would drive her mad, what with him stringing her along like a puppet.
They left the cemetery. Rachel tried to call a cab, but her phone didnโt respond for a long time.
At this time, it was a bit difficult to get a ride from the cemetery. Usually, William wouldโve been with her, but this was the first time she had come alone, and it was late. No driver wanted to come to such a remote place.
Rachel hesitated, wondering if she should ask Tyler for help. Any other guy might have been a gentleman and offered her a ride, but Tyler didnโt even spare her a glance.
She clenched her fingers, deciding she would have to take matters into her own hands.
โMr. Hunt, could I catch a ride with you? I canโt get a cab right now!โ
Tylerโs fingers tapped lightly on the steering wheel as he leaned back in his seat, looking at her with a teasing smile.
โYou want me to be your chauffeur, princess?โ
Rachelโs head throbbed. This guy was impossible to deal with! He called her a princess, but she felt he was acting like one.
But she needed his help, so she had to keep it together. She forced a smile, trying to keep things civil. โIโll pay you.โ
Tyler rested his elbow lazily on the window, propping up his head. โAre you really that rich?โ
Rachel furrowed her brows. โWhatโs that supposed to mean?โ
โLast time, you said you wanted to sleep with me. Just as generous today, huh?โ
Tylerโs tone was playful, a mix of teasing and mischief.
The mention of their previous conversation embarrassed Rachel deeply. She bit her lip, and the tips of her ears quickly turned red.
โThat was a desperate situation,โ she whispered. โIโd appreciate it if you just forgot it.โ
โOr maybe you could give me some hush money?โ Tyler pulled out a cigarette from his pack, his gaze lingering on her flushed face as he smirked.
Rachel took a deep breath. โMr. Hunt, are you really that desperate for money?โ
โYeah, Iโm so broke,โ he said, dragging out his words, clearly unconcerned about how he looked.
Rachel struggled to keep up with his banter. A little irritated, she snapped back, โIf you donโt want to give me a ride, you can just say so. No need for all the games.โ
She turned to walk away, but Tyler grabbed her wrist and held her in place.
โDonโt be so stingy. Iโm just joking around. I really donโt know how that blockhead William managed to win you over.โ
Rachel froze, instinctively turning to him.
โAre you close with William?โ
