Chapter 390
โMs. Lloyd, do you need a ride?โ Yale asked.
Rachel hesitated for just a second. Seeing Samantha behind her, cheeks flushed red as if she were about to catch up, she nodded without hesitation.
โSure.โ
Right now, Samantha and William were an even bigger threat than Tyler. She didnโt hesitate to slide into the car with Cecilia, and Yale smoothly pulled away from the curb.
Samantha watched the car drive off and stomped her foot in frustration.
She pouted at William. โWilliam, what did Rachel mean by that just now? Donโt tell me you actually want to get back together with her?โ
Williamโs eyes were dark and unreadable. He shoved his hands into his pockets, looking completely uninterested.
โYou should be thinking about how youโre going to cover the losses.โ
Samanthaโs heart sank. When she saw William turning to leave, she quickly grabbed his arm, eyes panicked as she tried to explain. โWilliam, you canโt just walk away from me like this! You agreed to those investments too, didnโt you?โ
โI did, but youโre the one who told me they were guaranteed wins. Iโve spent years funding you so you could learn the ropes, and this is what youโve learned? When Rachel was learning, she had everything figured out before the projects even launched. Look at you now.โ
William had never said anything before, but that was back when he didnโt feel taken advantage of. The money Samantha had lost was supposed to be their lifeline. He was trying hard to keep his temper in check, but it was slipping.
Samantha couldnโt take his cold tone. She immediately started to cry, tears like shimmering pearls rolling down her cheeks. She looked heartbreakingly pitiful.
โWilliam, I know I was wrong. Iโm sorry, okay? Iโll fix this. Even if I have to sell everything or work side jobs, I will pay you back.โ
She wiped away her tears and turned to leave.
William frowned and, after a beat, chased after her. He caught her wrist in a firm grip.
โI was just upset, alright? I didnโt mean it that way. Iโll figure something out for the money. But for now, weโll have to sell the house.โ
Samantha froze. Her expression turned awkward.
โAbout the houseโฆ Iโve already extended the lease to Cecilia. When we tried to go back in, she brought a lawyer and threatened to sue us if we didnโt follow the contract.โ
Williamโs expression darkened. โThis has Rachel written all over it. Cecilia doesnโt have the brains to pull that off.โ
Samantha pursed her lips. Her eyes glistened with guilt.
โThis is all my fault. If I hadnโt loved you so much and insisted on being with you, Rachel wouldnโt hold a grudge and come back just to get revenge. If sheโs angry, she can take it out on me. She didnโt have to drag you into this. Doesnโt she know Lewis Enterprise is your lifeโs work?โ
Williamโs expression was unreadable, but his gaze grew even darker.
In Tylerโs car, Rachel sat quietly while he lounged in the backseat with his eyes closed.
Tyler hadnโt spoken since they got in. The air was completely still, yet somehow his very silence filled the cramped interior with an oppressive pressure.
The tension was suffocating.
Rachel was just about to break the ice with some small talk when Tyler suddenly opened his eyes and parted his lips.
โSing something for me.โ
