Chapter 390

โ€œMs. Lloyd, do you need a ride?โ€ Yale asked.

Rachel hesitated for just a second. Seeing Samantha behind her, cheeks flushed red as if she were about to catch up, she nodded without hesitation.

โ€œSure.โ€

Right now, Samantha and William were an even bigger threat than Tyler. She didnโ€™t hesitate to slide into the car with Cecilia, and Yale smoothly pulled away from the curb.

Samantha watched the car drive off and stomped her foot in frustration.

She pouted at William. โ€œWilliam, what did Rachel mean by that just now? Donโ€™t tell me you actually want to get back together with her?โ€

Williamโ€™s eyes were dark and unreadable. He shoved his hands into his pockets, looking completely uninterested.

โ€œYou should be thinking about how youโ€™re going to cover the losses.โ€

Samanthaโ€™s heart sank. When she saw William turning to leave, she quickly grabbed his arm, eyes panicked as she tried to explain. โ€œWilliam, you canโ€™t just walk away from me like this! You agreed to those investments too, didnโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œI did, but youโ€™re the one who told me they were guaranteed wins. Iโ€™ve spent years funding you so you could learn the ropes, and this is what youโ€™ve learned? When Rachel was learning, she had everything figured out before the projects even launched. Look at you now.โ€

William had never said anything before, but that was back when he didnโ€™t feel taken advantage of. The money Samantha had lost was supposed to be their lifeline. He was trying hard to keep his temper in check, but it was slipping.

Samantha couldnโ€™t take his cold tone. She immediately started to cry, tears like shimmering pearls rolling down her cheeks. She looked heartbreakingly pitiful.

โ€œWilliam, I know I was wrong. Iโ€™m sorry, okay? Iโ€™ll fix this. Even if I have to sell everything or work side jobs, I will pay you back.โ€

She wiped away her tears and turned to leave.

William frowned and, after a beat, chased after her. He caught her wrist in a firm grip.

โ€œI was just upset, alright? I didnโ€™t mean it that way. Iโ€™ll figure something out for the money. But for now, weโ€™ll have to sell the house.โ€

Samantha froze. Her expression turned awkward.

โ€œAbout the houseโ€ฆ Iโ€™ve already extended the lease to Cecilia. When we tried to go back in, she brought a lawyer and threatened to sue us if we didnโ€™t follow the contract.โ€

Williamโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œThis has Rachel written all over it. Cecilia doesnโ€™t have the brains to pull that off.โ€

Samantha pursed her lips. Her eyes glistened with guilt.

โ€œThis is all my fault. If I hadnโ€™t loved you so much and insisted on being with you, Rachel wouldnโ€™t hold a grudge and come back just to get revenge. If sheโ€™s angry, she can take it out on me. She didnโ€™t have to drag you into this. Doesnโ€™t she know Lewis Enterprise is your lifeโ€™s work?โ€

Williamโ€™s expression was unreadable, but his gaze grew even darker.

In Tylerโ€™s car, Rachel sat quietly while he lounged in the backseat with his eyes closed.

Tyler hadnโ€™t spoken since they got in. The air was completely still, yet somehow his very silence filled the cramped interior with an oppressive pressure.

The tension was suffocating.

Rachel was just about to break the ice with some small talk when Tyler suddenly opened his eyes and parted his lips.

โ€œSing something for me.โ€
