Chapter 463
Rachel had seen enough of such drama, be it in the past or in soap operas on cable. Rather than panicking, she found the whole thing hilarious.
Ray, as if sensing her bad mood, whimpered at her feet. Rachel knew that he felt bad for her. Dogs were very sympathetic creatures, after all. She reached out to rub Rayโs head, consoling him.
โIโm fine. Head upstairs for some snacks. I put some in your bowl earlier.โ
Seeing that, Wilma had the urge to laugh. โMs. Lloyd, youโre such an interesting person. Can this dog understand you? Why say so much to it?โ
Rachel rubbed Rayโs furry cheeks. โSometimes, dogs understand people more than some people.โ
Wilma rose to her feet in a whoosh, her face red with ire. โHow ill-mannered! You dare speak to an elder like that!โ
Rachel looked at her in feigned confusion. โWhen did I do that?โ
โYouโฆ!โ
Wilma couldnโt put forth any evidence, as it was true that Rachel hadnโt done that. Rather, she merely insinuated it. With a dismissive wave of her hand, Wilma snapped, โWhatever it is, state your price. How much is enough for you to leave Tyler?โ
Rachel sneered; she refused to show Wilma undeserved respect, especially when the latter had resorted to violence over nothing. โSince youโre bent on separating Tyler and me, shouldnโt you go looking for him? As his aunt, you should know his temperament better than I do. You came looking for me, but even if I agreed to it, do you dare say that heโll agree to it too?โ
It was Wilmaโs turn to sneer. โDo you mean to say that Tyler will harass you and refuse to let you go? Open your eyes and see for yourself who we are! Putting aside the fact that youโre a divorcee, youโre Williamโs ex-wife. That fact alone makes things impossible between you and Tyler.
โYouโre an illegitimate daughter to boot. If word of that got out, weโd be looked down upon! Tyler is such an outstanding man. He doesnโt lack women.โ Wilma thought that her words would put Rachel in her place and make her give up.
However, Rachel was no longer the same as she was five years ago. Forget being affected by Wilmaโs words; she had the courage to retaliate. โYou think that Tyler is outstanding, but I donโt think Iโm inferior to him. Whatโs more, heโs no fool. Wouldnโt he know whether Iโm good for him or not?โ she shot back.
Winona scoffed. She hated women like Rachel, born to be vixens adept at luring and seducing men. Such women loved hoodwinking men and wrapping them around their little finger.
โIโm telling you, heโs just temporarily bewitched by your beauty. Youโre not getting any younger. If you want a happy ending straight out of a fairytale, heโs not going to give you that. If you want money, name your price. Weโll be able to afford whatever you ask for!โ
Rachel arched her brow; she covered her mouth and exclaimed in feigned surprise, โAre you going to drown me with your money?โ She then rubbed her chin, as if seriously pondering the question. โThen again, my asking price would be quite high. Are you really sure you can afford it?โ
Wilma looked disdainfully at Rachel, as if confirming her assessment. She crossed her legs and leaned back against the couch, tilting her wrist.
