Chapter 54

Despite having his back toward her, Rachel could hear an old man's voice; even over Tylerโ€™s phone, it exuded incredible authority. Rachel had thought that no one in this world could overpower Tyler, given his character.

โ€œIโ€™ll go back soon,โ€ Tyler replied in a low voice.

โ€œI said,โ€ the old man snapped irritably, โ€œcome back right now!โ€

Tyler hung up.

To prevent things from getting awkward between them, Rachel piped up, โ€œMr. Hunt, I can go back in a taxi by myself.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€

Tyler nodded before opening the door and driving off, leaving her in the dust.

Rachel stood stunned for a moment. She had thought he would at least help her call for a cab, but how could she expect someone like him to be chivalrous? A die-hard clueless man, thatโ€™s him! She called for a cab with her phone and only realized that there was a huge, black mark on her dress on her way back.

When she finally arrived home, she went straight to her room and opened her wardrobe to pick a new outfit. When she pulled out a shirt, she could smell a whiff of perfume. She suddenly remembered the day she called William and overheard Samantha talking about liking her clothes and wanting him to buy the same thing. Even if Rachel didnโ€™t hate Samantha, the thought of someone else wearing her clothes disgusted her. Rachel had no idea which outfit Samantha touched, so she decided to dump them all into a bag. She was on her way out to throw them into the donation box when she bumped into William, who had just returned.

Seeing the huge bag she was dragging, William pointed at it suspiciously and asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s all this?โ€

โ€œClothes that I donโ€™t want anymore,โ€ Rachel replied indifferently.

William didnโ€™t ask more. It was normal for women to discard clothes they didnโ€™t want anymore.

Rachel pressed the elevator button.

William returned to his room to get changed. When he opened the wardrobe, he realized that all of Rachelโ€™s clothes were gone. His brows furrowed. He had handpicked all of her clothes for her. She didnโ€™t bear to wear them unless it was for a special occasion. How could she possibly throw them all away?

When Rachel came back, William approached her; he pulled her hand and stared at her. โ€œThose were clothes I bought for you. How could you throw them away?โ€

โ€œI just thought they were outdated. No one wears them nowadays.โ€

Though Rachel felt her hands in Williamโ€™s, she could smell the pungent perfume on his clothes. She knew the scent belonged to Samanthaโ€”it was the exact scent she had noticed upon entering Samanthaโ€™s office today. Her lips drew into a sardonic smirk. These two didnโ€™t even bother to cover up their tracks properly.

Chapter 54 TAJ DUNUD

However, Rachel knew that asking them about it would be pointless. William would only claim that he was talking business with Samantha, and that her perfume accidentally got on his clothes.

William didnโ€™t look too suspicious. He rubbed Rachelโ€™s hair affectionately and signed to her, โ€œTake my card and buy something you like at the mall tomorrow. Also, do tell me if you feel upset or uncomfortable in any way. We need to talk more to each other. Donโ€™t just keep things to yourself.โ€

Rachel tried to suppress her laughter. Tell him if she felt upset? Was there a point in doing so? She kept pleading for Project Oasis, yet he insisted on giving it to Samantha. He knew full well that she had weak lungs and couldnโ€™t work in dusty places, yet he insisted on giving Samantha her office. What was he doing on her motherโ€™s death anniversary, which was so important to her? Watching Samantha cook him soup in their home, thatโ€™s what. Was her cooking that delicious?

In the end, Rachel simply nodded.
