Chapter 59
If word were to spread, this would be ludicrous.
Rachel smirked inwardly and glanced at Samantha, who was acting as pitiful and innocent as a lamb. The woman looked nothing like the wicked schemer she truly was. Her words and actions reminded everyone that something was going on between Rachel and Tyler.
The shareholders started discussing the matter.
โThink about it! Ever since Ms. Judd joined the company, all of Ms. Lloydโs projects were stolen from her. Even the project with Trinity Enterprise was signed under Ms. Juddโs name, and Ms. Lloyd lost her position as director. Sheโs the wife of the CEO of Lewis Enterprise, for goodnessโ sake! If I were her, I wouldnโt stay with this company. If LS Enterprise offered me better terms, why would I stay here?โ
โBut if she were to do that, people would start gossiping about Mr. Lewis, and how his wife and his rivalโฆ Well, itโll be a huge scandal if word spreads.โ
Rachel couldnโt help but be in awe of Samantha. From now on, she would slap anyone who dared to claim that Samantha wasnโt cunning.
A simple word from Samantha was sufficient to stir up a storm.
After some discussion, the shareholders finally raised their request.
โMr. Lewis, I think we shouldnโt let Ms. Lloyd participate in this project for the time being, mainly because of her being too close to Mr. Hunt of LS Enterprise.โ
โYes. Itโs not that we donโt trust her, but we think we should exercise more caution. This project is very important to our company, after all.โ
William rubbed his temple in frustration. This issue was getting thornier by the moment.
Rachel didnโt try explaining herself and simply looked at William. She wanted to know what he thought.
Did he, like everyone, assume that she was colluding with Tyler?
William, however, remained silent.
On the other hand, Samantha spoke up with fierce indignation.
โGo ahead and pin the blame on me for the blunder, but how could you suspect Rachel? You know very well how much she did for the company! Even if it looks like sheโs been getting close to Mr. Hunt, I trust that itโs nothing out of the ordinary. I saw with my own eyes Rachel leaving Mr. Huntโs car. They were behaving perfectly normally!โ
Rachel almost rolled her eyes in front of everyone.
Samantha was just making things worse, and she knew it.
โIโve heard about Mr. Huntโs car. Not just anyone can sit in it. I heard only his family or people he holds in high regard are allowed in it.โ
โIndeed. I heard someone say that a woman wanted to sit in his car but before her butt managed to touch the seat, Mr. Hunt threw her out.โ
Rachel knew that things were working against her favor. No one told her how important that car was to Tyler. Had she known, she would have walked home rather than sit in that car.
โMr. Lewis, there is a solution. Right now, weโฆโ she began.
โRachel, perhaps you should keep a low profile for now.โ
Rachel was about to say that she had a way to resolve the issue, but William beat her to it and told her to keep a low profile.
Where Samantha was concerned, he dismissed the shareholdersโ attempts to hold her accountable for the delayed start to the project. He quickly jumped to the next topic, making his attempts to defend her very clear.
When their target shifted to Rachel instead, he didnโt even bother saying a word in her favor and simply told her to keep a low profile.
Very well!
