Chapter 62
Rachel poured a glass of water for Cecilla and helped her into a chat.
After Cecilia calmed down, she said to Rachel, โDonโt worry. Mr. Lewis took my suggestion. The shareholders agreed to it.โ
Rachel heaved a long sigh of relief.
She knew clearly that William had been forced into a corner; given how antagonistic he was with Tyler, he wouldnโt have made such a compromise so easily otherwise.
William also knew that while Tyler could afford having the project delayed, the same couldnโt be said for him.
Most of the profitable projects in the market in the first half of the year were signed under Tylerโs company. The projects Lewis Enterprise managed to clinch didnโt offer much; they were only sufficient for the company to break even.
There were also the two projects Rachel clinched, but they were probably snatched from under Tylerโs nose. She just didnโt know about it.
โGreat. I need to take a day off work and go home tomorrow,โ Rachel said.
Ceciliaโs face changed. โBack to your old home? But why? You havenโt gone for so many years. Your stepmother is so fierce, and so is your grandfather. They only favor your sister.โ
Cecilia knew full well the situation in Rachelโs family. Only Rachelโs mother loved her. Her father, under pressure from her stepmother, didnโt treat her well. Her grandfather was even worse.
So much time had passed since that incident. That old man should have let go of things a long time ago. Moreover, it wasnโt even Rachelโs fault. She was still too young and knew nothing at that time.
Rachel naturally didnโt tell Cecilia that she was intending to leave. She merely patted Cecilia gently on the shoulder.
โItโs fine. Iโm just visiting them. Itโs also my fatherโs birthday tomorrow.โ
โDo you want Mr. Lewis to accompany you?โ Cecilia asked. โWith him around, your family might be less harsh to you.โ
โThereโs no need. Heโs going to be fully occupied with Project Oasis. I wonโt bother him.โ
Williamโs attention had been fully on Samantha recently, resulting in the huge oversight in the project. No matter how much he wanted to defend Samantha, it seemed ludicrous.
Cecilia held Rachelโs hand. โRachel, youโre so nice. Mr. Lewis is fortunate to have found you.โ
Rachel smirked. โIs that so?โ
Clearly, William didnโt share the sentiment.
By the end of the meeting, the shareholders requested that William punish Samantha for her blunders. Project Oasis was a priority for the company. They couldnโt allow a newcomer to mess around with it.
They had initially wanted Rachel to assist Samantha, until Samantha claimed that Rachel sat in Tylerโs car โ his precious Bugatti, no less. Aside from his family, anyone who managed to sit in his car must be someone pretty important to him.
Since the shareholdersโ suspicions of Rachel couldnโt be cleared, they didnโt dare to allow her participation in the project.
Eventually, management concluded that Rachel and Samantha were to negotiate with Tyler and get him to agree to a team-building session between both companies. Through that, the bond between their companies could be strengthened, and nasty rumors could be quelled.
Although the solution sounded straightforward enough, everyone knew that Tyler was a tough nut to crack.
The aim of the plan was also to clear Rachel of suspicion and prove that she had nothing to do with the management rights of Project Oasis. After all, she wasnโt the one who tipped Tyler off.
In other words, the shareholders had no trust in Samanthaโs abilities or lack thereof and wanted Rachel back as director.
When Rachel read the announcement, she was resistant to the plan. She really didnโt want any further interactions with Tyler.
When William and Samantha came looking for her, she rejected them immediately.
โIโm sorry, Mr. Lewis. I canโt do it. Youโll do better leaving this formidable task in Ms. Juddโs hands.โ
