Chapter 747
Rachel headed toward the beach while Tyler went in the direction of the park. After all, those were the two places most people would run off to hide.
As she walked, Rachel kept calling out Anneโs name.
โMs. Charlton!โ
Just as she turned her head, she spotted Anne. Rachel was about to go over when she noticed several men surrounding Anne.
โHey babe, come hang out with us.โ
โYeah! Donโt be by yourself, itโs boring. Come have some fun with us.โ
Anne had never been caught in a situation like this before, especially at night. Fear took over, making her back away with a terrified look on her face.
โW-Who are you? Get lost! I donโt even know you."
โIt doesnโt matter if you donโt know us. Youโll get to know us real soon. Youโre not from around here, are you? All alone?โ
โWhat, did your boyfriend ditch you? Donโt worry, weโve got plenty of guys here. We can keep you company.โ
Anne shoved at the lecherous hands reaching toward her, trying to warn them off.
โDonโt you dare! I have a boyfriend. He just went to buy water. If you lay a hand on me, heโll make you regret it!โ
One of them clicked his tongue and mocked her.
โBabe, you donโt even know how to lie properly. I can tell right away you donโt have a boyfriend. Quit acting tough.โ
โCome on. Weโll show you a good time. Weโre fun guys, youโll see.โ
A couple of them reached for Anne, holding her so tightly she couldnโt move.
โLet me go! Help! Somebody help me!โ
Rachel saw what was happening and instinctively wanted to charge in, but Tylerโs warning flashed through her mind. She quickly pulled out her phone and shared her location with him.
[Urgent.]
She then pocketed the phone and took big strides toward Anne.
โLet her go!โ
Anneโs eyes widened in shock when she recognized Rachel. โWhy are you here?โ
Rachel gave Anne a quick once-over to make sure she wasnโt hurt, then snapped at the men, โI already called the police. If you donโt want to spend the night in jail, let her go now!โ
Normally, just the mention of the cops wouldโve been enough to scare people into backing off. But instead of panicking, the men only laughed louder.
โThe police? Lady, do you think this is your home turf?โ
โThatโs right. Let me tell you, Sawyerโs relative works at the station. With him around, the cops wonโt touch us over something like this.โ
Rachel frowned, her gut sinking. No wonder these guys had the nerve to harass women so openly. They had someone backing them.
This was bad!
She went straight up to pull Anne away, but one of the men yanked her arm. His voice was sleazy and sarcastic.
โWell, well. Is one girl not enough? Looks like weโve got another one to play with.โ
โHey, Sawyer, let us have this one. I kinda like her.โ
โBack off! I want her! You can have the other one.โ
With that, the man called Sawyer pushed Anne toward his buddies and reached for Rachel. Rachel ducked down, picked up a rock from the ground, and slammed it against his head.
โOuch!โ
Blood gushed as Sawyer clutched his head. His hands started turning red. Rage filled him as he pointed a trembling finger at Rachel.
โYou hussy! How dare you hit me?โ
Rachel was shaken too, especially at the sight of all that blood, but she didnโt have the luxury of thinking about it. While everyone was stunned, she lunged forward, grabbed Anne from their grasp, and bolted.
