Chapter 751
"This whole thing is on me. I really do owe you an apology," Tyler said.
Right was right and wrong was wrong. Tyler wasnโt the kind of man to refuse to admit it when he was at fault.
But somehow, his words hit Anne right where she was most vulnerable. She shot to her feet, her face burning with naked fury.
"What you did was way out of line! You trampled on someoneโs feelings just to test the feelings of another. Tyler, weโve worked together for years, and I never once thought you could be this kind of man. Tonight, I finally see you for who you are!"
With that, the guilt weighing on her heart seemed to lighten just a little. She lowered her gaze, eyes cold as they fixed on him.
"At first, I was blaming myself for what happened to Ms. Lloyd. I thought that if I hadnโt stormed off, she wouldnโt have gotten caught up in this mess because of me.
"But then I realizedโฆ Tyler, donโt you carry any responsibility here too? If you hadnโt said those things to me at the bar, if you hadnโt made me so upset, none of this would have happened!
"Ms. Lloyd and I wouldnโt have ended up in that situation. You canโt just wash your hands of it."
Finished, Anne turned and walked straight toward the consultation room next door.
Her voice hadnโt been loud, but in the quiet hospital hallway, it carried. Patients and nurses nearby all heard it clearly. Soon, curious glances started landing on Tyler.
โWhatโs his deal? Total scumbag, isnโt he?โ
โFrom what that girl just said, it sounds like heโs in love with the one in surgery. But since he didnโt know if she liked him back, he used this other girl to test her feelings.โ
โAnd judging from how she reacted, it looks like his test worked.โ
A young nurse, fresh out of school, couldnโt help but click her tongue.
โSeriously? Who does that? Thatโs just cruel.โ
An older nurse, though, seemed far calmer.
Chapter 752
โWhatโs so cruel about it? To put it bluntly, everyoneโs just acting for themselves. The girl who stormed out? She wanted to be with that man too, didnโt she?โ
โBut you canโt betray someoneโs feelings like that!โ the younger nurse argued.
The older one smirked. โThen put yourself in his shoes. If you had someone you desperately wanted to know loved you, and someone else walked right up giving you the chance to find out, donโt tell me you wouldnโt take it.โ
The two younger nurses who had been so fired up just seconds before fell silent.
It was easy to judge when it wasnโt your life. But if it ever was, most people would probably do the same thing Tyler had.
โAlright, enough gossip. Itโs none of our business. Get back to work,โ the older nurse finally said.
After 40 long minutes, Rachel was finally wheeled out of surgery.
Tyler immediately jumped to his feet and rushed over. โHow is she, doctor?โ
โSheโs out of danger. Luckily, you got her here when you did. If youโd been even five minutes later, I canโt promise we wouldโve been able to save her.โ
Tylerโs heart clenched at the words. For the first time since the night began, the crushing tension inside him finally released.
Once Rachel was transferred to a ward, he pressed the doctor again for follow-up instructions.
โThereโs nothing major. Just keep her here for a couple of days and let her rest.โ
โThank you, doctor.โ
The doctor paused before adding, โBy the way, was the one in that consultation room earlier your friend?โ
