Chapter 751

"This whole thing is on me. I really do owe you an apology," Tyler said.

Right was right and wrong was wrong. Tyler wasnโ€™t the kind of man to refuse to admit it when he was at fault.

But somehow, his words hit Anne right where she was most vulnerable. She shot to her feet, her face burning with naked fury.

"What you did was way out of line! You trampled on someoneโ€™s feelings just to test the feelings of another. Tyler, weโ€™ve worked together for years, and I never once thought you could be this kind of man. Tonight, I finally see you for who you are!"

With that, the guilt weighing on her heart seemed to lighten just a little. She lowered her gaze, eyes cold as they fixed on him.

"At first, I was blaming myself for what happened to Ms. Lloyd. I thought that if I hadnโ€™t stormed off, she wouldnโ€™t have gotten caught up in this mess because of me.

"But then I realizedโ€ฆ Tyler, donโ€™t you carry any responsibility here too? If you hadnโ€™t said those things to me at the bar, if you hadnโ€™t made me so upset, none of this would have happened!

"Ms. Lloyd and I wouldnโ€™t have ended up in that situation. You canโ€™t just wash your hands of it."

Finished, Anne turned and walked straight toward the consultation room next door.

Her voice hadnโ€™t been loud, but in the quiet hospital hallway, it carried. Patients and nurses nearby all heard it clearly. Soon, curious glances started landing on Tyler.

โ€œWhatโ€™s his deal? Total scumbag, isnโ€™t he?โ€

โ€œFrom what that girl just said, it sounds like heโ€™s in love with the one in surgery. But since he didnโ€™t know if she liked him back, he used this other girl to test her feelings.โ€

โ€œAnd judging from how she reacted, it looks like his test worked.โ€

A young nurse, fresh out of school, couldnโ€™t help but click her tongue.

โ€œSeriously? Who does that? Thatโ€™s just cruel.โ€

An older nurse, though, seemed far calmer.

Chapter 752

โ€œWhatโ€™s so cruel about it? To put it bluntly, everyoneโ€™s just acting for themselves. The girl who stormed out? She wanted to be with that man too, didnโ€™t she?โ€

โ€œBut you canโ€™t betray someoneโ€™s feelings like that!โ€ the younger nurse argued.

The older one smirked. โ€œThen put yourself in his shoes. If you had someone you desperately wanted to know loved you, and someone else walked right up giving you the chance to find out, donโ€™t tell me you wouldnโ€™t take it.โ€

The two younger nurses who had been so fired up just seconds before fell silent.

It was easy to judge when it wasnโ€™t your life. But if it ever was, most people would probably do the same thing Tyler had.

โ€œAlright, enough gossip. Itโ€™s none of our business. Get back to work,โ€ the older nurse finally said.

After 40 long minutes, Rachel was finally wheeled out of surgery.

Tyler immediately jumped to his feet and rushed over. โ€œHow is she, doctor?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s out of danger. Luckily, you got her here when you did. If youโ€™d been even five minutes later, I canโ€™t promise we wouldโ€™ve been able to save her.โ€

Tylerโ€™s heart clenched at the words. For the first time since the night began, the crushing tension inside him finally released.

Once Rachel was transferred to a ward, he pressed the doctor again for follow-up instructions.

โ€œThereโ€™s nothing major. Just keep her here for a couple of days and let her rest.โ€

โ€œThank you, doctor.โ€

The doctor paused before adding, โ€œBy the way, was the one in that consultation room earlier your friend?โ€
