She glanced at the time on her phone; she still had enough time to make a trip to the Lloyd family estate. Although she had once sworn never to set foot in that place again, now it seemed she had no choice. She casually made up an excuse to Tyler, saying Cecilia had asked to meet her. At first, Tyler was skeptical. He raised his wrist and glanced at his watch. “Cecilia invited you out this late? Shouldn’t she be at home with the kids right now?”
Rachel hadn’t expected him to dig into the details, and she froze for a moment before quickly coming up with another excuse. “Oh, her kids said they missed me. It’s been a while since they last saw me. You know how it is. They don’t have a father, and Cecilia’s been raising them on her own. Her mother-in-law went back to her hometown, too. I thought I’d bring them something.” Without another word, Tyler grabbed the car keys from the desk. “I’ll drive you.” “No need. She said she’d meet me at the mall nearby. You should focus on handling PR and clearing up the mess online. Don’t take it lightly. This company is the result of your hard work. You can’t just let it all go to waste. “You’ve got so many employees depending on you, some who’ve been with the company since the very beginning. I’ve seen it myself. Everyone worked late, giving it their all. As their boss, you can’t let them down like this.”
Tyler walked over, slipped an arm around her waist, and pulled her into his embrace. He brushed his chin against her hair. “Not unless you promise not to leave.” This time, Rachel didn’t reject him right away. She froze for a moment and replied, “I’ll think about it.” With that, she slipped out of his arms, opened the office door, and gave him a little wave before leaving. When the door clicked shut behind her, Tyler finally processed what she had said. He repeated her words in his head again and again. She said she’d think about staying. He clenched his fists tightly. For the first time, he broke into a smile of pure joy.
Rachel hailed a cab straight to the Lloyd family estate. To make sure Tyler wouldn’t find out, she even called Cecilia to explain the situation and asked her to cover for her if needed. When Cecilia heard, she immediately launched into a full-blown lecture. “You haven’t been in touch with me all this time. I thought something had happened. I don’t have Jerry’s number, and it wasn’t until I saw the news online today that I realized Tyler’s aunt had tried to jump off a building. And then, I saw that picture of you. Do you have any idea how dangerous that was? You just rushed out like that to grab her! Do you know how risky that was? With momentum alone, she could’ve easily dragged you down with her!” Cecilia knew exactly how tall the LS Enterprise building was. It was more than thirty floors. Just imagining the height made her legs go weak, let alone thinking about Rachel throwing herself forward like that. Rachel chuckled. “I know it was dangerous, but at that moment, you know there’s no time to think. Stop nagging at me. Honestly, I didn’t even know what I was doing. The situation was so urgent, my mind just went blank, and my body moved on its own.” Cecilia couldn’t help but laugh at how serious she sounded. “Alright, alright, stop trying to talk your way out of it.
