Just then, Thomas Lewis walked out and caught wind of the news of Williamโs infertility. It almost made him collapse there and then.
His entire body was shaking, and even his voice trembled.
โWhatโฆwhat are you talking about?โ
Everyone remained silent. They knew how advanced in years Thomas was and how he might not be able to take some things.
Thomas approached William and grabbed his collar.
โWilliamโฆ Tell me! Tell me what she just said. What does it mean that youโre infertile? Didnโt you say that it was her problem?โ
William hung his head low, utterly embarrassed to even look at Thomas. โIโฆI donโt know whatโs going on, either.โ
Thomas looked up and cried brokenly, โHow could something like this happen to you? Is this how the heavens are punishing our family?โ
Suddenly, his eyes went wide and his body stiffened. The next second, he collapsed to the ground.
Everything happened so quickly that nobody knew what was going on.
Tyler reacted the fastest and yelled at Rachel. โCall for an ambulance, quick!โ
Rachel recovered quickly and made the call.
An ambulance rushed by and took Thomas away. Rachel saw Samantha and William leave with the ambulance, but they looked so despondent and in no mood to deal with Thomasโ condition.
Rachel suddenly realized that this was a perfect chance for Tyler and Thomas to reconcile. She patted Tyler gently on the back.
โWhat are you waiting for? Follow them.โ
โWhy should I go? William and Samantha are enough,โ Tyler retorted.
โWhat can the two of them do? They look so lost and out of sorts. This is a matter of life and death, for goodnessโ sake! You really should go with them.โ
Rachel pushed Tyler in the direction the ambulance had left.
Tyler was still worried about Rachel. โWhat about you?โ
Cecilia stepped forward and patted her chest. โMr. Hunt, donโt worry! Iโm still around, and Jerry will be here soon. Everything that needs to be done is more or less done. Mr. Lloyd will be buried tomorrow. We just need to thank the guests for coming today.โ
Tyler felt relieved at Ceciliaโs reassurance. โIโll take a look at the situation in the hospital. If thereโs nothing much, Iโll come back immediately.โ
โHurry on now,โ Rachel said. โGo with Yale so you at least have each other on the way there.โ
She was worried that something might happen to them on the way there, what with Tylerโs mind full of Thomas.
Soon, Yale left with Tyler. Rachel and Cecilia saw them off before walking back to the main hall.
The moment they reached the funeral, they saw Gerald standing there, his face dark and solemn. A bad feeling crept up Rachelโs chest.
The first thing Gerald said was, โRachel, come in with me.โ
Rachel smirked. She knew what her grandfather wanted to talk to her about.
What else, if not about Yvette?
If it wasnโt about Yvette, then he was probably going to blame her for not stopping the Lewises from airing their dirty laundry here.
Now, everyone there knew about Williamโs condition and the fact that Samantha had betrayed him.
Rachel turned to say to Cecilia, โHelp me entertain the guests. Iโll be back in a jiffy.โ
โWatch your tone, alright? Heโs advanced in years and is grieving as well. Donโt provoke him unnecessarily,โ Cecilia advised Rachel.
Cecilia knew Rachel too wellโshe wouldnโt give in to her own grandfather, who didnโt even treat her as family.
Rachel smiled. โIโll try to hold myself back.โ
She followed Gerald into his study. He sat behind his desk, his fingers tapping the top of the table with his knuckles.
โRachel, youโve truly disappointed me,โ Gerald snarled with suppressed anger. โYvette is your sister! Why did you blow things up at your fatherโs funeral? Now everyone knows whatโs going on. Are you bent on embarrassing our entire family?โ
