Chapter 856

Rachel felt her dashed hopes reignited once more. She didnโ€™t expect Elias to be willing to open the door for them.

She went in with Yale and Jerry.

Elias poured them cups of water and sat down before lamenting, โ€œI didnโ€™t expect you to be so insistent. To be honest, given current medical advancements, many other outstanding doctors can operate on your friend. You donโ€™t need to insist on me.โ€

Rachel said nothing more except, โ€œI trust you.โ€

Elias looked at Rachel with a strange look in his eyes, not expecting those words to come out of her mouth. Since the traumatizing incident back then, everyone online, including the victimโ€™s family, had been verbally attacking him.

He didnโ€™t even dare to leave the house for fear of being the target of public censure.

With time, he began to stay at home out of habit. Despite his efforts to run away from what he did, he still had nightmares of people spitting at him in their fury.

A moment later, Elias chuckled bitterly. โ€œI canโ€™t even hold a scalpel right now.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s okay. You might not be able to do that right now, but you know this condition the best. You can give us your advice after reading the patientโ€™s medical records before we engage a local doctor to operate on her."

Rachel had read through countless case studies exemplifying the many miracles that Elias had realized in the medical world.

It was a great misfortune that a doctor with such a bright future turned out like this.

It was frightening to think how much luck could change in a matter of time. Those in high positions would never stay there forever, and neither would those in lowly positions.

It was more important to focus on the present.

Elรญas heaved a sigh of relief.

โ€œThat sounds like a much better idea. I was worried that you might want me at the operating table. To be honest, I really donโ€™t think I should, given how rusty my skills have become. Even if youโ€™re willing to risk your friendโ€™s life, I wouldnโ€™t dare do it.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine, Dr. Elias. We can take things slow. That means you agree to my proposal, right? Donโ€™t you worry, weโ€™ll engage a medical team to discuss this case with you.โ€

Elias nodded and took a deep breath, as though he had made up his mind about something major.

โ€œIn that case, when do you intend to go back?โ€

Rachel, Yale, and Jerry exchanged glances.

โ€œThe faster, the better. My friend isnโ€™t in great condition right now, and she has two children at home. Iโ€™m worried that the longer we drag things out, the lower her chances of recovery.โ€

โ€œAlright. Inform me once the tickets are booked. Iโ€™ll pack my things and get ready.โ€

It had been a long while since Elias stepped out of his house. He thought he should try to get used to things outside. He had to inform his mother about it, too.

The weight on Rachelโ€™s shoulders was finally lifted.

She stood up and said, โ€œAlright, weโ€™ll make a move first. Have a good rest, Dr. Elias.โ€

โ€œLet me see you out,โ€ Elias said as he stood up.

Rachel waved her hands to stop him. โ€œPlease stay, Dr. Elias. We can make our own way out.โ€

Elias saw them depart.

After they got into the car, Rachel heaved a sigh of relief.

โ€œThis is great! Elias has agreed to come back with us to treat Cecilia. I must tell her the good news.โ€

Rachel dialed Ceciliaโ€™s number, but it was Tyler who answered the call.

A bad feeling rose in her chest.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Cecilia?โ€

โ€œSomethingโ€™s happened to her.โ€
