Chapter 924

The monitor started beeping rapidly, and the signals on the screen started becoming erratic.

A nurse rushed in upon hearing the beeping. She quickly tried to comfort Samantha, who was getting agitated and emotional.

She said to the police officers, “She’s emotionally unstable right now and can’t continue with the interview. Please come back after her condition stabilizes.”

The police officers looked at Samantha, who was slowly calming down, and closed their notebooks with a helpless sigh.

“We’ll head back first, then. When her condition improves, we’ll arrange another time to drop by and take her statement. I hope she can come round and confess her crime. That’s the only way out for her.”

Silence ensued in the ward again, leaving only the beeping of the monitor.

Samantha lay on the bed as she stared up at the ceiling, tears falling silently from the corners of her eyes.

She had thought her days after her divorce from William were bad enough. Yet now, she finally knew what it meant to destroy herself.

One week later, Yale called Tyler to inform him about the court’s verdict of Samantha’s charges.

“Samantha was found guilty of attempted murder and was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of three years or more.”

Rachel’s hand paused mid-way while typing when she heard the news, but quickly recovered and returned to her work.

Tyler remarked casually, “Got it. Take it that she has paid the price for her own actions.”

Upon hanging up, Tyler walked toward Rachel and hugged her from behind. He rested his chin on her head, enjoying the mild scent of tangerines in her hair.

“If Samantha realized her own mistake earlier, she might not have ended up in such a state. As you sow, so shall you reap. She had it coming. You shouldn’t feel bad about it.”

“Yeah, I know. Anyway, look at the infant clothes I bought online. I realized that the quality of clothes from this store is excellent. The fabrics they use are the softest in the market, perhaps even better than store-bought ones."

Rachel had come round. She couldn’t punish herself because of Samantha’s mistake.

Everyone had to be responsible for their own actions.

She picked up her phone and navigated to a shopping app to show Tyler what she had bought recently.

“Go ahead and buy more if you like. But I noticed that most of the clothes you bought are blue. What if it’s a girl?”

“Don’t you think it’s a good idea to buy clothes in blue? Pink ones are gender-specific, but not blue. Both girls and boys can wear blue.”

Rachel leaned into his embrace, her heart melting at the cute clothes on her screen.

“That’s very smart of you, my wife.”

Over the next few days, Tyler rejected all unnecessary work appointments to keep Rachel company as they picked out wedding favors, confirmed the guest list, and settled on the font of their wedding invitation cards, which took them a while to decide.

One night, Tyler seized the chance to call Jerry while Rachel was in the shower.

“Did you manage to contact the people I asked you to?”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Hunt. I’ve contacted her colleagues from the design company she used to work in, as well as her best friends in university. Everyone is excited to attend the wedding. They even said they have a surprise in store for her.”

Tyler looked dotingly at the silhouette behind the frosted glass in the washroom.

“She’s been talking about having her close ones by her side during the wedding. Her closest family members are all gone, but I suppose having her friends around is the next-best thing. By the way, has Dr. Elias updated you about Cecilia’s condition and whether it has stabilized?”
