Chapter 927
William neither cared nor wanted to bother about her.
However, Rachel was strong-willed and never conceded defeat. When the relatives accused her of being of no help to Williamโs career, it only drove her to prove them wrong.
Eventually, she managed to silence everyone with her skills.
With time, she realized that the relatives didnโt dislike her because she had shortcomings; they simply didnโt like her. Someone who doesnโt like you will be able to find fault with you no matter what.
Tyler caressed Rachelโs hair out of habit. โWhatever it is, remember this: donโt let yourself get bullied wherever you go. If they dare say anything unfair about you, donโt bother being nice to them. At most, I can let my relationship with the Lewises turn sour again.โ
Warmth seeped through Rachelโs heart. This was how secure it felt to have someone backing you up. She no longer needed to fight alone.
The next day, she went to the mall with Tyler to buy some gifts.
Both Rachel and Tyler were in different moods when they arrived at the Lewisesโ mansion. This place had special significance to them both.
Tyler spent his childhood in unhappiness here, while Rachel was on the receiving end of everyoneโs insults and mockery when she was married to William.
Compared to her, Tylerโs feelings at stepping foot back at the Lewisโ mansion were much more complicated.
Sensing his distaste at being back at this place, Rachel reached out to hold his hand and comforted him, โItโs just a meal. Weโll leave once weโre done.โ
Tyler nodded as he held her hand back.
Rachel pulled Tylerโs hand and placed it on her tummy.
โItโs not just the two of us, but the three of us now,โ and his eyes softened.
Tyler knew there was a tiny being inside Rachelโs womb right now, and his...
โLetโs go.โ
As the two of them walked in, Thomas was heading down the stairs. His gaze landed on Rachelโs stomach.
โCome on in. Itโs windy outside.โ
Then, he yelled in the direction of the kitchen.
โIs the chicken soup I asked for ready? Serve a bowl to Rachel right now!โ
โNo, thank you. I had some fruit before I came,โ Rachel said with a wave of her hands.
โItโs fine. Just leave it there. You can have some later when youโre hungry. Lunch will be slightly late today, and Iโm worried you might get hungry. Oh, yes. I even asked the servants to buy many different snacks. We have many kindsโsour, spicy, and sweet ones. Help yourself to whatever you like."
โIf you donโt like any of them, tell me what you want. Iโll get them to buy it right away.โ
Rachel found it way too troublesome. She had never seen Thomas treat her so warmly before.
She said with a smile, โIโll have something spicy, then.โ
โIf you have spicy cravings, itโs apparently a sign that youโre carrying a girl,โ Thomas said with a grin.
โThatโs an old wivesโ tale. People donโt believe in that nowadays,โ Rachel replied, still smiling.
Thomas wasnโt one to insist on superstition or tradition. โThatโs fine. Iโll love the baby, be it a girl or a boy.โ
By then, most of the relatives had arrived.
Polly walked to Rachel with a plate of sweet potatoes. โRachel, try this. I asked the kitchen to steam this with no added sugar. Itโs nutrient-packed, great for pregnant ladies. My husband has gastric issues, and he relied on this to supplement his diet.โ
This particular aunt used to give Rachel a hard time, but for some reason, was treating her exceptionally kindly now.
