Listen to this chapter:

"Child?" Lawrence sneered, disgust filling his eyes. "I can't even protect myself, not to talk about a child! Abort it as soon as you can, and we'll have nothing to do with each other from now on!"

"What did you just say?" Mrs. Jennings looked at him in disbelief as tears streamed down her face. "That's your blood and flesh you're talking about! How could you be so heartless?!"

"Heartless? You were the one who ruined everything in the first place!"

Lawrence shook her hand off, his voice icy. "I've contacted my lawyer, and the divorce agreement will be sent over tomorrow. If you don't agree to it, we'll see each other in court. You won't get a single cent, and you'll even be jailed! As for the child, it's pointless keeping him. He'll only be a burden to you!"

With that, he turned to leave without even looking back.

Mrs. Jennings sat dejected on the floor, her cries getting louder as she looked at his retreating figure. "Lawrence Jennings, we were together for so many years. You can't treat me like this!"

She thought her husband would defend her, but never expected him to be nothing in the face of power. He was even against her and her child!

Back at the hospital, Tyler updated Rachel about what Yale had told him.

She leaned against the headboard and remained silent for a while before saying softly, "Anyone would be furious, not to talk about a man."

"He chose her as his wife," Tyler said as he sat by the bedside, tucking in the corners of the sheet. "Don't dwell on this any longer and get some rest."

Rachel nodded and shut her eyes.

Tyler's heart ached at the exhaustion on her face.

He stood up and left the ward before instructing Yale, "Send more men to guard the ward. Also, where did Wanda go?"

The moment he mentioned Wanda's name, she came running over.

"Sir, I heard that something happened to the madam! I hurried over once I was done with the groceries."

Tyler's brows furrowed, "Wanda, didn't I instruct you before I left to stay at home to take care of her? Why did you..."

"It was my fault. Iโ€™m sorry, sir. The thing was, there was nothing left in the fridge, and the madam wanted to eat a particular dish. I had to head out for grocery shopping. When I came back, I was stuck in a traffic jamโ€ฆ Iโ€™m so sorry. How is she doing?"

Wanda kept trying to peek into the ward.

The look of worry on Wandaโ€™s face and the fact that Rachel was fine made Tyler find it pointless to pursue the matter further.

"Forget it. Go on in."

Wanda hurried into the ward and saw Rachel lying on the bed, her face pale.

"Madam, Iโ€™m so sorry! Do your eyes still hurt? Itโ€™s all my fault. If I hadnโ€™t gone out grocery shopping, you wouldnโ€™t have sufferedโ€ฆ"

Rachel opened her eyes slowly, only to see Wanda panicking in front of her. She shook her head and said weakly, "Wanda, I donโ€™t blame you. I wasnโ€™t careful, either. It has nothing to do with you."

Wanda wiped the tears away and tucked in a corner of the sheets.

"Once you get discharged, Iโ€™ll cook some chicken soup for you. Nourishing your body is the top priority right now. Youโ€™re pregnant and we canโ€™t afford for anything more to happen to you. I heard that woman barged into the house with a knife in hand."

Rachelโ€™s hand subconsciously rested on her lower abdomen at the mention of her child. A look of relief flashed past her face.

"The baby is fine. The doctor said that its heartbeat is very steady. Only my eyes were irritated by the paint. They feel much better now, though. Donโ€™t worry. Sunny and Ray did their best to protect me."

โ€œIโ€™m happy that youโ€™re fine.โ€ Wanda heaved a sigh of relief.

A thought came to her mind, and she spotted an apple in a bag on a cabinet.
