“Madam, are you hungry? Do you want an apple? I can peel it for you.”

Rachel could tell that Wanda was feeling very guilty and nodded. “Thank you, Wanda.”

She didn’t know who spread the news, but Thomas found out about the incident and rushed to the hospital to see her. After confirming that she was fine, he turned his attention to Tyler and scolded him.

“What’s going on with you? Last time, I reminded you time and time again to take good care of Rachel. And yet, you allowed something like this to happen! Someone barged into your house in an attempt to murder your wife and child, and here you are standing in front of me, safe and sound!”

Tyler didn’t refute Thomas’s claims and lowered his head, his voice etched with guilt. “It’s my fault for not protecting her and letting her get hurt.”

“Your fault? Is a mere apology sufficient?” Thomas glared at him and jabbed his chest.

“Rachel is pregnant, and you promised me you’d protect her well. But you didn’t leave anyone reliable at home with her and left her all alone in harm’s way! What would you do if Sunny and Ray hadn’t protected her, and if something happened to her?”

Nurses walking past the ward heard the commotion and couldn’t help but eavesdrop on the conversation.

Tyler didn’t care and kept his head low. “I’m bringing in more bodyguards. This won’t happen again.”

“Happen again? Would this have happened again if anything had happened today?” Thomas said harshly. “You think you’re protecting her by placing more people by her side? You’ve got to care more for her! No matter how busy work gets, would it be as important as your wife and child? I think you’re getting too obsessed with work and neglecting Rachel’s safety!”

He paused for a while and thought about the pale look on Rachel’s face. His tone softened, but he said sternly, “Let her come into harm’s way again, and I won’t spare you!”

Tyler nodded profusely. “Don’t worry. I’ve told Yale to step up security at home, with bodyguards standing guard around the clock. I’ll stay with Rachel at the hospital until she gets discharged.”

Tyler’s assurance made Thomas back off. He tapped his cane against the floor and said approvingly, “That’s more like it.”

He then turned to say to Rachel, “If he does this again, tell me. I’ll teach him a lesson on your behalf.”

Rachel said with a smile, “This has nothing to do with him. Don’t blame him.”

Cecilia even reminded Rachel about it, but she didn’t take it to heart. She only had herself to blame for thinking too kindly of others.

After sending Thomas away, Tyler stayed by Rachel’s bedside, holding her hand.

“See that? You’re the precious jewel of the family, and everyone scolds me if anything happens to you.”

“That’s not really because of me, but the child inside me. Oh yes, help me ask when I can be discharged. Our wedding is the day after tomorrow. I can’t possibly go for it injured.”

To be honest, when Rachel was splashed with paint, the first thing that came to mind was whether she could still go ahead with the wedding. They had invited so many people; they couldn’t possibly change the date at such a last-minute notice.

Tyler knew Rachel must be thinking about that and rubbed her head affectionately.

“Don’t worry. I asked about it just now, and they said you can be discharged tomorrow after monitoring you and making sure everything is fine.”

Rachel’s eyes lit up. “Really? That’s great!”

“Don’t worry, I’ll make sure you shine as the most beautiful bride on that day.”
