Amber scoffed softly. "I won't bother you anymore. I just wanted to give you some good news. I'm leaving. You must be pretty happy about that, right?"

She continued, "But I must say that Miller Manor isn't a place for someone like you. You're not from that world. Forcing yourself into it will only make everyone…"

Bella pressed her lips together. "Are you done? I have work to do. I'm leaving."

Amber shot her a glance as she stepped into the elevator. "There's no such thing as love that doesn't sour—only eternal interests. Compared to you, I'm far more valuable to Dominic!"

Three days later, Bella fully understood Amber's meaning. Business headlines announced a powerful alliance between the Miller Group and the Yates family; photos of the two parties together dominated the news. Bella's lips turned pale as she bit her lip. Feeling suffocated, she walked to the window and opened it for air. "I was never in the picture from the start, so stop talking about it."
