Chapter 136: You Know Too Much

Bella felt her heart sink. "Is that really why you must tell him?"

Lan was amused by her question. Chuckling, he said, "Your brain works in a unique way; even your thought process is special. Aren't you curious why I'm doing this for Dominic?"

Bella immediately retorted, "Judging by your words, you're spying on me. Am I wrong?"

Lan was disappointed. "You're so stupid. Forget it, I'm leaving. You can think about it."

She felt baffled. What other reasons could there be besides monitoring her?

Later, she was busy with work at the hospital and didn't have time to think. She had just returned to her office when her supervisor called her in to discuss a complicated surgery she'd performed that morning. She remained busy until the afternoon.

When she finally had a break and remembered her medication, she realized it was missing from her drawer.

After searching, she gave up. She didn't dare ask her colleagues if they'd seen it. There were too many hospital workers; it was impossible to know who might have taken it. She could only wait until her shift ended to get more from the pharmacist.

Around 4:00 pm, the cardiac department scheduled another surgery. Lan was the lead surgeon, and Bella was his assistant. Bella knew the hospital director arranged this to train her and have her learn from Lan. She didn't know his capabilities outside surgery, but she had to admit he was a more skilled surgeon than she was.

The surgery lasted over five hours, ending around 9:00 pm. Neither of them had time to eat, and Bella was starving. She immediately changed and ordered takeout as soon as they left the operating room.

She glanced at Lan, who was standing beside her, and asked, "I'm ordering takeout. Would you like something?" She assumed someone like Lan would be picky, so she only asked out of politeness. She didn't expect him to nod in agreement.

He said, "Sure, I'm hungry too. Order another portion of whatever you're having. We need to stay and monitor the patient after they wake from anesthesia, so we can't leave yet."

Once their food arrived, they ate in the pantry. Lan frequently messaged someone on his phone. He looked busy but remained impassive. Remembering the hotel incident, Bella asked, "I'm curious. How did you break up with your ex?"

Lan turned to her, amused. "Are you trying to find dirt on me to threaten me? You already saw us that day; you don't need to ask." Bella rolled her eyes. "Do you really think I'd do that? Tell Dominic whatever you want. I can't control you."

"Go ahead and snitch. What do I have to fear? I've lived under his oppression for twenty years and I'm still here."

Lan chuckled. "Oppression? How did he oppress you? Are you referring to your activities in bed?"

Bella wasn't shy about dirty jokes. She instinctively blushed around Dominic, but remained calm with Lan.

"It's not just the bedroom. He makes things difficult for me. He just doesn't want me to be happy. Also…"

"Lan, you know too much. Don't you know characters in dramas who know too much rarely have happy endings?"

Lan leaned back, draping an arm over his chair. "Oh? Is that it? Well, it seems I know more than you think."

He lifted his phone. Bella saw he was talking to someone—Dominic! She panicked. The call lasted over two minutes, meaning Dominic heard everything she'd said to Lan. Dominic's cold voice came from the phone. "Bella, we need to talk when you get off work."

(The final line "Chapter 127 How Did He Oppress You?" seems out of place and likely a mistake. It should be removed.)

The promotional line for FindNovel.net should also be removed as it is not part of the story text.
