Chapter 147: Warning

Perhaps Frederick was a good person. As soon as Pudding saw him, she wagged her tail and happily ran over, eagerly seeking his attention.

After playing with Pudding, Frederick got to the point. "I've been doing business in Kandoria lately, and the money comes in quickly. Would you like to join me? I don't think you need to remain tied to the Miller family business. It would likely take you far, but people like us need to work both sides, right? You know how it is—fairness and righteousness often lose to darker forces." Kandoria was a place long plagued by chaos and war. It wasn't hard to guess the nature of Frederick's business.

Dominic refused without hesitation. "No, thank you. I'm quite busy."

Frederick looked disappointed. "What a shame you lack your father's ambition. The Sawyer family has more vision than you; they're involved as well."

The Sawyer family's involvement didn't faze Dominic much. "Is that all you came to say? You didn't travel all this way just to ask that, did you?" Frederick paused. "Since there's no real reason for you and Amber to break up, I was hoping you'd reconsider. I think highly of you, and I always admired your father. It's a pity I never had the chance to befriend him before he passed. If you're free, why don't you come with me sometime? We could exchange ideas. It might make future cooperation easier."

Frederick's words were smooth, making it hard to refuse without seeming ungrateful. Dominic understood the implication but didn't want to commit yet.

"Let's eat first," Dominic said.

At the dining table, Frederick noticed Bella's absence. "Dominic, where's your sister? Why don't you call her down to eat with us?"

Dominic frowned and gestured for Sylvia to fetch Bella.

Though Bella found it awkward, she came downstairs. She disliked such gatherings, especially with Amber present.

The atmosphere was strained. However, Frederick acted friendly toward Bella. "I didn't know the Miller family had a daughter. Your name is Bella Miller, right? Why do the household staff call you Ms. Jones?" Bella glanced at Dominic, unsure how to respond.

Dominic was considering a diplomatic response when Amber, surprisingly, helped him. "No, Dad. Her surname is Jones; the Miller family adopted her as a young orphan. She's a doctor at Horizon Hospital, and she's very skilled." Frederick nodded. "I see. So, do you have a boyfriend, Bella? I'm sure an exceptional woman like you isn't single."

Under the table, Amber subtly kicked Bella. Bella, annoyed, looked at Amber, but the warning in Amber's eyes made Bella respond instinctively. "Yes, I do."

She glanced at Dominic. Their eyes met briefly, then looked away indifferently. Frederick smiled. "I thought so. He must be from a well-off family, right? Otherwise, he wouldn't be a match. Which family is he from? Perhaps I know them."

Amber playfully interrupted. "Dad, it's not like she's your daughter-in-law. Why are you so concerned about the Miller family's affairs? Bella's doing fine with her boyfriend, so why ask so many questions? Let's just enjoy our meal."

"We'll stop by Dominic's company this afternoon and show you around. You came all this way, so you might as well relax and have a look." Frederick finally ceased his inquiries. After lunch, Bella returned to her room while Dominic entertained Frederick and Amber. When Frederick went to the restroom, Amber warned Dominic, "That's all the help I can give you. If my father discovers the truth about you and Bella, don't blame me if something happens to her. I warned you he was coming today, but you still let Bella stay here and cause trouble. What were you thinking?"
