Chapter 148: This Is Her Home
Dominie firmly said, "This is her home. There's no reason for her to avoid it."
Amber, infuriated, ignored him. Striding out, she bumped into Frederick emerging from the restroom. Quickly masking her anger, she said, "Dad, go ahead and chat with Dominic. I'm going upstairs to see Bella."
The warmth vanished from Frederick's face. "Amber, don't think I'm oblivious. Your schemes are too obvious and naive. If Dominic agrees to join us, everything will be fine. But if he refuses, Bella has to go. Don't get involved. That's all. Please don't do anything reckless."
Amber turned pale. "Dad! Dominic doesn't respond well to threats. All I want is to marry him."
Frederick snorted. "Ever since you started dating him, I've investigated the Miller family. I know you've tried to cause trouble for Bella three times at the hospital. You even nearly ran her over with your car. Did you think I wouldn't know? If there weren't feelings between them, you wouldn't be so petty. Can't you see why he told me Bella was his sister? He's protecting her because he's afraid you'll hurt her. Even if you like someone, be smart about it!"
Scolding over, Amber didn't dare to argue. Once Frederick was gone, she went upstairs to Bella's room. She pushed open the door without knocking.
Bella, about to take a nap, was annoyed. "What the hell? What's wrong?"
Amber retorted angrily, "Yeah, there is! You're a doctor. Why don't you fix me?"
Bella, wanting no part in it, curled up under her blanket.
Amber tossed her shoes aside and plopped onto the bed. "I can't stand listening to my dad talk business. I'm just hiding here because it's quiet."
Bella jumped out of bed. "Are we that familiar? Don't you see me as a rival? You almost killed me! Isn't this inappropriate?"
Amber rolled her eyes. "We're both women, so why pretend? It's an improvement that I'm not disgusted by you. Just stay put."
Bella, unable to take it anymore, sat by the window and chatted with Lia. To her surprise, Lia was abroad, having recently gotten a pilot boyfriend and no time for Bella.
Bella sighed. Lia, who swore she'd stay single forever, had been completely swept away by a handsome man!
Later, Amber, Frederick, and Dominic left for the company. Dominic returned home alone after 10:00 pm. After showering, he stood by the window, drinking and reading Amber's messages.
He knew Frederick was cunning, and now felt forced to go abroad. His return was uncertain.
He finished his drink and went to Bella's room, knocking on the door.
Bella recognized the knock and opened the door. "What's wrong?"
It was their first contact in days.
Dominic remained in the doorway. "I'm going abroad in a few days."
Bella recalled Tan's words about Amber wanting to keep Dominic away.
She frowned. "Are yougoing with Amber?"
Dominic nodded. The hallway was dimly lit, obscuring his expression.
Bella bit her nails. "Go ahead, then."
