Chapter 17: Completely Inappropriate
Bella was concerned about the emotional toll the current situation would take on Lan. She decided to visit his office during a quiet period. As she approached, a pretty nurse rushed out, her face flushed. It was difficult not to speculate about what had happened. If Lan cared about appearances, he wouldn't be engaging in such activities. For a moment, she wondered if she was overthinking things. After all, his ability to move on from yesterday's events demonstrated his resilience.
Just as she was leaving, Lan emerged from his office. He showed no embarrassment at seeing her. Instead, with a slightly suggestive tone, he asked, "Dr. Jones, are you looking for me?"
His words left Bella speechless. "Can't you act normally?" she asked. "What were you doing in there with that nurse? You should be mindful of our surroundings. I came because I was worried the gossip might upset you, but it seems I needn't have worried."
Lan chuckled nonchalantly. "Guess what we were doing? Also, I'm fine. This might seem unusual here, but it's normalized overseas. My dad marrying my ex-girlfriend isn't a big deal. From my perspective, he's marrying someone I didn't want, so technically, I didn't lose anything."
Astounded by his nonchalance, Bella was relieved to see he was unaffected. "I'm glad you've come to terms with it. Since you broke up long ago, it's time to let it go."
As she spoke, she noticed a faint trace of makeup covering a bruise on his face. "You fought with your father yesterday?"
Lan shrugged indifferently. "He's been hitting me since I was a kid. Let's just say that was the last time. Now, we owe each other nothing. Stop calling him my dad; he doesn't deserve the title."
Bella sighed. "I think you're perfect as a professor, not an heir."
"I think so too," he agreed.
Later that afternoon, Lia called Bella and invited her to dinner.
Chapter 17 (continued): Completely Inappropriate
Bella remembered Dominic's instructions to stay home or at the hospital and avoid going elsewhere. She hesitated before asking Lia to meet her in the hospital parking garage. They could grab a quick meal and return before Dominic noticed.
At the end of her shift, she hurried to the parking garage. It was connected to the adjacent building and quite spacious. She couldn't see Lia near her car, so she called her while searching the area.
Suddenly, she noticed Lan's car bouncing oddly. Her first thought was that someone was trying to break in. Panicked, Bella hung up the phone, grabbed one of her shoes as a weapon, and approached the car cautiously. However, she saw nothing unusual near the vehicle. Then, a delicate hand pressed against the window from inside.
Her mind blanked for a moment before she realized what was happening. Her face flushed, and she fled, abandoning her shoe.
She couldn't believe Lan was being so brazen as to have sex in the hospital parking garage. Unable to reach Lia, Bella waited in her car, her view obstructed by Lan's vehicle.
