Chapter 195: A Side She Had Never Seen Before

Over the weekend, Bella stayed home, keeping company with Lia via voice calls. Lia abruptly mentioned a recent news story. "Did you know the police removed a dead body from a house in your neighborhood? It's not far from yours," Lia said.

"The dead man wasn't the homeowner, and the owners didn't know him. He broke in and died accidentally. They even found guns belonging to him. Could he have been an assassin?"

"The people in your neighborhood are pretty wealthy, and wealthy men attract trouble. You need to be careful."

Bella, surprised by this news, replied, "Is that so? I didn't know. I'm usually at the hospital during the day, and I haven't heard anyone talking about this."

Out of curiosity, she went to the rooftop and looked at the house Lia described. Situated on slightly higher ground, it overlooked Miller Manor. Someone on its roof could clearly see into Miller Manor.

Suddenly realizing something, Bella hurried back to her bedroom, unwilling to dwell on it further.

That night, during dinner, Bella showed Dominic the news article. "Do you think this man was sent by your fiancé? The house's location is perfect for observing Miller Manor—it seems too specific."

"You killed his father, so I don't think he'll let you off easily," she added.

Dominic's eyes narrowed. He didn't read the article, as if he already knew its contents. "I didn't expect you to be such a detective," he said lightly.

His tone sounded mocking. Bella felt deflated. Their relationship was strained, making it difficult to communicate. She was worried about his safety; they had lived together for so long, and she still cared deeply for him.

She lowered her head and continued eating. After a while, Dominic asked, "How do you think the guy died?"

His expression was impassive, as if asking a mundane question.

Bella froze, her mind racing. If Dominic had known about the assassin from the start, the man's death was likely no accident. What kind of accident could befall a trained assassin? It couldn't have been accidental!

Before she could ask him, Dominic put down his cutlery and left with Pudding.

Bella sat stunned, taking time to compose herself. When he had returned injured before, she had seen him as the victim, acting in self-defense. Now, things were different. She had known him for twenty years, yet it seemed he had a hidden side she'd never seen before.

A few days later was Leonard's birthday. Dominic had informed Bella in advance, wanting her to attend the party.

It was more of a notification than a request, so Bella, despite her reluctance, had to ask for two days off from the hospital.

Leonard's birthday celebration was both simple and lavish, held on a private island owned by the Sawyer family in the South Seas. The group traveled there by private jet.

The island's weather was hot, so Bella packed only two outfits and essentials, assuming a two-day trip wouldn't require much.

On the day of departure, Dominic brought Pudding, even giving her a new collar and a black-and-white checkered bib. Bella added sunglasses, making Pudding look dashing.
