Chapter 22: Goodbye, Dominic
Before leaving, Bella arranged to meet Lia and handed her the resignation letter. "Please give this to the hospital director for me."
Lia looked troubled, rubbing her hands. "Where are you planning to go? Are you really leaving? Felix has already taken care of everything online. It's all sorted out now…" Bella sighed. "I really have to go this time. I'll let you know where I end up. Maybe I'll come back someday, since I grew up here. Please thank Felix for me. I'm not going to call him." Lia knew that once Bella made up her mind, it was impossible to change it, so she said, "Then let me know when you settle down."
Bella nodded. They said their goodbyes with forced smiles, both with red-rimmed eyes.
The departing train whistled as it began its journey, and Bella chose to slowly take in the scenery, bit by bit, saying goodbye to the past. Memories of her time at Miller Manor since she was five flashed through her mind. Tears flowed uncontrollably, soaking her clothes.
As the train left Joville, she silently repeated in her heart, "Goodbye, Dominic."
Later, Ian called Dominic: "Dominic, Bella has left. The resignation letter has been delivered to the hospital. I went to her home; she's taken all her things and left a bank card and a letter for you."
When Dominic received Ian's call, his hand holding the documents stiffened. After a pause, he replied calmly, "Is there anything else? I'm busy. I'm hanging up."
After ending the call, he set down the documents and rubbed his temples. His assistant, Magdalena Hall—the woman he embraced at the hotel—approached with coffee. "Mr. Miller, are you alright?"
Dominic looked out at the towering skyscrapers, feeling irritable. The coffee in his mouth tasted unusually bitter. "Why is it so bitter?"
Magdalena hurriedly said, "I'll get some sugar right away!"
He raised his hand. "No need… Book a flight back to Joville tonight. Leave the rest to John."
That night, Miller Manor was eerily quiet. When Dominic returned, he paused at the door for a moment before stepping inside. Seeing the letter and bank card left by Bella, he tossed them aside in frustration. Hadn't she already planned to leave?
Soon, Ian arrived in a hurry, looking somewhat nervous. "Dominic…"
Dominic's gaze was cold as he scanned Ian. "How are you going to handle this?"
Ian cleared his throat, appearing guilty. "Since the photos online were posted by Mandy, you should decide what we're going to do about it. I've already broken up with her. I had no idea she would cause such a mess."
The child that Mandy had aborted was Ian's. To avoid trouble, he had asked Dominic for help, which led to Dominic arranging the abortion for Mandy.
Dominic scoffed. "Since you have plenty of these affairs, I'll let Leonard handle it."
Leonard Sawyer was a well-known figure in Joville's underworld. The three had known each other for years and were familiar with each other's methods. If Mandy fell into Leonard's hands, the outcome was predictable.
Ian's expression changed slightly. "Dominic… is that really necessary? Mandy messed up after she was drunk that day and posted the photos without thinking. She only realized the mess she made the next day. Besides, Felix has already resolved this. Let it go."
Dominic punched Ian's chest lightly. "There won't be another chance. Don't let me see Mandy in Joville again. Otherwise, your affections won't matter."
Ian nearly gasped for breath from the punch and weakly gave an "okay" hand gesture. "Should we go after Bella?"
At the mention of Bella's name, Dominic frowned. "Get lost! Take care of your own business."
