Chapter 51: The All-Encompassing Emptiness
This wasn't quite the story; it was bizarre. Hella remembered what Lethal had said sleepily and intently asked, "Do you and Leonard not get along?"
"Who told you that?" Leonard retorted. "We get along very well!"
Bella was even more perplexed. "Then why did you tell me to let him go when he was first sent to the hospital?"
He'd been different at the time; otherwise, she wouldn't have given it much thought. Older brothers will be older brothers.
Leonard chuckled. "I had to keep him on his toes. What if he'd accidentally passed out and woken up clinging to someone because he's afraid of his older brothers?"
"Super sneaky. It's clear that your father really loves your mother," she remarked with a smile.
It was often said that every cloud had a silver lining, but she hadn't found hers yet. The light at the end of the tunnel was still a distant glimmer. Perhaps not every journey ended happily. Suddenly, Leonard said solemnly, "I'm leaving my brother in your hands, Bella." Bella straightened her shoulders. "I know. I'll do everything I can."
On the day of Daniel's kidney transplant, all the members of the Sawyer family, or their eldest sons, who were also undergoing surgery, waited outside the operating room. Even though she specialized in cardiac surgery, Bella was also well-versed in other fields, and with the support of a team of specialized doctors, she was certain that the surgery would be a success.
The surgery lasted six hours and was a complete success. When Bella emerged from the operating room, she noticed Dominic standing among the Sawyers, and he fit right in. "The surgery was a success," she announced before leaving.
After visiting Daniel and Pierre, the Sawyers sent Leonard to Bella's office. As soon as he arrived, he placed an expensive-looking gift box on her desk. "Here, they insisted on giving you this as a token of their gratitude."
Bella sighed. "I can't accept this. Just invite me to a meal sometime. Besides, this is my job. I would have done the same for anyone else. This makes me feel like I'm being bribed." He clicked his tongue. "If you don't accept it, my family will feel terrible and start something" "I have to decline," she insisted.
Leonard arched an eyebrow. "In that case, I'll tell my family."
She'll probably bring it to you in person!
Bella shuddered when she thought about how Diane wanted her to marry into the Sawyer family. Reluctantly, she accepted the gift. [Remove the website advertisement]
"Is that enough?" she asked. "I'm busy; why don't you just leave?"
He grinned and abruptly changed the subject. "Did you and Dominic get into a fight? He came to see my father and then left for Foerville without even dropping by to see you." Bella sighed. She was too tired to argue with Dominic. After a long day, Bella returned late to an empty house. She switched on the living room lights, and the glow cast her thin shadow on the wall. Leonard wouldn't be coming over tonight because he was staying with his family.
In the dead of night, when the world was shrouded in complete silence, the emptiness and solitude felt all-encompassing, creeping into her very soul.
When she spotted Dominic's suit drying on the balcony, she took it down and carefully put it away, making sure not to crease it. He always paid attention to detail. Bella wondered if she should stop torturing herself and give him another chance. Maybe she could just take the leap of faith.
