Chapter 86: In His Bed
The next day, Bella woke up at 1:00 p.m. Since it was her day off, she didn't have to go to the hospital. She lazily closed her eyes again.
Outside, the sun blazed, but the room remained cool thanks to the air conditioner.
She rubbed her forehead, feeling a slight headache from the previous night's drinking, but it wasn't severe. Suddenly, she remembered the night before.
Her eyes widened as she recalled Dominic shouting at her on the rooftop. She had been so scared she almost fell. Dominic had pulled her back, and they both fell. She wondered what happened afterward and how she ended up back in her room. She couldn't remember anything.
As Bella started to wake up fully, she noticed something was wrong. The room didn't smell like hers; it smelled like Dominic's.
She realized she was in his room—sleeping in his bed! She was also wearing his pajamas, which were pulled up above her chest, and her undergarments were out of place.
She was completely confused. The empty space next to her in the bed was still warm. What had happened last night?
Trying to sneak out unseen, Bella left his room. But Sylvia appeared at the top of the stairs, as if she had been watching.
"Ms. Jones, you're awake? Mr. Miller saw you were still asleep at lunchtime, so he didn't wake you. Would you like me to get you something to eat?"
Had Dominic really stayed until after lunch? He was such a disciplined man—what on earth had happened last night to make him lose half a day? Bella felt so embarrassed she wished she could disappear.
"No need, I'm going out soon. You don't have to worry about me," she told Sylvia.
In the shower, Bella noticed her whole body ached. She had scrapes and bruises on her knees and elbows, but she wasn't sure if they were from the fall or something else. It looked like someone had already put ointment on them. She wasn't inexperienced, but the way her body felt was confusing.
After her shower, she nervously sent Dominic a message: "Did I do anything embarrassing last night after drinking too much?"
Ten minutes later, Dominic replied with a short audio clip.
Bella's fingers trembled as she hit play. She heard her own voice mixed with Dominic's.
"How about you try being my girlfriend?" Dominic said. "Then just so you know, it's not easy."
"Why don't we just try it? If it doesn't work out, who cares?" she responded. "I'm sick of this crappy, unclear thing between us. Even if it's just for a day, being your girlfriend might make me feel less…"
Bella didn't remember much else, but those two lines were enough to make her cringe with embarrassment. She wished she could disappear. How could she have said something like that after drinking? What she didn't know was that before those lines, she had said even more daring things. If she knew, she'd probably want to hide under a rock.
After her embarrassment subsided, Bella wondered why Dominic sent her the recording. Was he just trying to embarrass her further, or was there another reason?
She couldn't figure it out, and the embarrassment made it hard for her to stay in the house. So, she quickly changed, went to the hospital to pick up her car, and then headed to Li's sculpture studio.
