Chapter 87: Thrilled
Bella hadn’t eaten all day, and after drinking heavily the previous night, her empty stomach ached. As soon as she walked in, she demanded food.
Lia rolled her eyes but still gave her a bunch of snacks. “What, Dominic didn’t give you anything to eat? You’re coming here like a beggar. Nice job.”
Bella devoured the snacks, recounting last night’s events to Lia, including several complaints about Simon’s behavior.
Lia had heard some wild stories before, but this one still surprised her. She put down her wood carving and looked at Bella with interest.
“Your dad’s a jerk, sure, but don’t you think, in some weird way, he actually helped you? If you hadn’t been so upset and drunk, last night with Dominic might not have happened. And let’s be real—last night was different. At least he mentioned the word ‘girlfriend,’ right? Before this, you were just a hookup, nothing more.”
Bella rolled her eyes. “Seriously, you think I’m upset about Simon? He means nothing to me—I wasn’t heartbroken at all. What’s really driving me nuts is whether or not anything happened last night.”
Lia replayed the audio message a few times before giving her verdict. “You two definitely slept together last night. He sent you this so you can’t deny it later. It’s proof.”
“And let’s face it, waking up in his bed says it all. If he didn’t want anything to happen, he would’ve just dumped you back in your own room—it’s like, what, a few steps away? And the way he stepped in to defend you when your dad and his wife were giving you a hard time? I’m starting to rethink my grudge against him.”
“What’s there to stress about? Isn’t being his girlfriend exactly what you’ve always wanted? You’ve liked him for years, and now you’ve finally got him. You should be thrilled.”
Thrilled? Bella fell silent. It wasn’t as simple as Lia made it sound. Sure, three years ago, being with Dominic… The conversation in the audio clip felt more like he was humoring her because she was drunk, not something serious.
Lia couldn’t stand seeing her upset. “I used to think Dominic didn’t care about you at all, maybe even hated you. But think about it—would a guy who really hates someone sleep with them so many times? Even if he started out wanting revenge, he might have developed feelings.”
Bella replied quietly, “Some things can’t be changed.”
Lia sighed. “You just want to know if you and Dominic slept together last night, right? Let me ask him for you.”
Before Bella could stop her, Lia grabbed her phone and sent Dominic a message: “Did we sleep together last night? And were you serious about what you said in the audio?”
By the time Bella realized what happened and retrieved her phone, the message was already sent. She stood there, stunned, and yelled, “Lia!”
Lia playfully covered her ears. “Cover my ears, I won’t hear you yell! You were too scared to ask, so I did it. Now let’s wait for his reply.”
The next twenty-five minutes felt like an eternity to Bella, who was both nervous and excited to see Dominic’s response.
When the notification finally arrived, they both jumped.
Lia said, “You check it. I won’t peek.”
