Chapter 22

Caleb returned to Grant Group from the hospital, carrying a large bag of burn medication. He went straight to the conference room where the legal team was gathered. The sight startled Edward and the others; they immediately stood.

Although Caleb was always composed and expressionless, he usually maintained a polite, businesslike smile. Today, even that pretense was gone, replaced by an air of cold indifference.

“Mr. Grant, what can we do for you?” Edward asked nervously.

Caleb's gaze swept the room, but the person he sought was absent. Warren, sensing Caleb's intentions, quickly asked Edward, “Where’s Ms. Whitmore?”

Edward broke into a cold sweat. Yasmin had just left, and now Caleb was looking for her! Forcing a smile, he explained, “Are you referring to Yasmin? She’s a new hire. Our firm values our collaboration with Grant Group and takes the Mayford Acquisition case very seriously. We’ve assigned a more experienced lawyer to the project.”

Caleb's eyes narrowed. “So, you kicked her off the project because she got injured?”

Edward was confused. He hadn't even noticed any injury. He quickly corrected himself, “No, no! Yasmin voluntarily requested to withdraw. She told me last night.”

She pulled out before she got injured? So, to avoid him, she was willing to forgo the internship?

Caleb's expression darkened. Without speaking, he left, leaving a group of bewildered and anxious legal team members, including Warren.

“Mr. Hoffman, what should we do?” Edward asked hesitantly.

“You’d better hurry and get Yasmin back on the project!” Warren sighed, quickly following Caleb. This job was seriously shaving years off his life.

The atmosphere in Grant Group's CEO office was incredibly tense. Marketing director Ryan Davidson presented a proposal—one previously approved—which Caleb flatly rejected. His only response was, “Why are you bringing garbage like this to me?”

In the two hours before the workday ended, every department—marketing, finance, sales—was chewed out by Caleb. A group of executives gathered around Harris, trying to discover who had angered Caleb. Harris shrugged, implying he couldn't comment.

Who could have provoked Mr. Grant? Ms. Whitmore, of course.

“Find out where Yasmin went,” Caleb said irritably, tossing aside documents and canceling his evening plans. Was she running around with an injured hand? Really?

Thankfully, Harris was prepared. “Ms. Rhodes picked up Mrs. Grant this afternoon. She took Mrs. Grant to her place.” He thought, And Ms. Rhodes also spent half an hour cursing you out in front of Grant Tower.

Caleb muttered a curse. Damn it. When was George coming back to take care of his woman?
