Chapter 49
Jaden's expression turned ugly. Beyond the shock and tension of being caught, there was a deep-seated fear. They were both descendants of the Grant family, but Caleb had always been different. In this generation, all the Grant men carried the initial "T," except Caleb. His name, chosen by Benjamin himself, signified his favored status as the family's designated successor from birth.
However, Jayden's gaze remained firm on Yasmin. Taking a deep breath, he straightened his spine and met Caleb's gaze. "I get fifty thousand dollars in pocket money every month, and I'll give it all to Yasmin!"
"Fifty thousand dollars isn't even enough for Hermes exclusives," Caleb said, the faint smile vanishing. His sudden coldness was suffocating. "Jayden, did no one teach you how to properly address your cousin-in-law?"
Jayden's neck stiffened. "Caleb, you and Yasmin are getting divorced. You have no control over this!"
The moment the word "divorce" left Jayden's mouth, Caleb lunged. His strides were swift, and before Jayden could react, a fist crashed into his chest, slamming him against the wall.
"Ow! Damn it, Caleb!" Jayden winced, baring his teeth. He wanted to fight back but dared not.
"You got a problem with that?" Caleb looked down, his expression unreadable.
Jayden clenched his jaw. He knew another word would bring another blow, but for Yasmin, he was willing to take a beating.
"I don't care! I like Ya—"
"Jayden!" Yasmin interrupted.
Jayden's eyes lit up with hope as he turned to her. Caleb glanced at Yasmin too, his gaze darkening as he waited for her response.
Yasmin spat with disgust, "Don't you know it's no use crying over spilled milk?"
"Yasmin…" Jayden looked hurt. How could she be so heartless?
Yasmin picked up her purse, giving them an impatient glance. "Move." She had no interest in lingering.
Caleb reached for her wrist, but she easily evaded him. "Caleb, isn't keeping Jayden in check your responsibility as his older cousin and the future head of the family?" she asked, annoyed.
Without waiting for a reply, she walked away. Caleb turned back to Jayden, his irritation growing. He threw another punch, sending Jayden reeling. Yasmin's footsteps faded, leaving silence.
"Your allowance is suspended," Caleb said, finally releasing Jayden. He wanted to see how Jayden would manage now.
Jayden had been about to run after Yasmin, but Caleb's words froze him. His face paled. "Caleb, that's not fair! You can't cut me off! That money belongs to me!"
"Jayden, fairness doesn't exist in the adult world." Caleb looked down at him as if he were an ignorant child. "The only reason you even have the right to stand here and talk to me is because of your last name." If he weren't a LaGrant, Caleb wouldn't have wasted a second on him.
Jayden clenched his fists, his teeth grinding in frustration. Caleb had been born with everything. How was he supposed to compete? But it didn't matter. He had one thing Caleb didn't—his love for Yasmin.
Right now, Yasmin just wanted to escape to a crowded place, somewhere Jayden wouldn't dare act recklessly. Unfortunately, upon entering the garden, she ran straight into Jayden's mother, adorned in jewels. Yasmin considered ignoring her, but before she could, Clare Harvey blocked her path.
