Chapter 264
Austin posed the question to Claire and Tina. However, they remained silent and shook their heads.
Claire suddenly thought of something and said, “But I’m absolutely sure that Vespera doesn’t know where the enepse is.”
He looked at the absolute idiots in front of him and felt the urge to cry.
“Think, the two of you, think? Who would dig up a corpse for no reason? Were you completely ruling out the possibility that the corpse has been in Dominic’s possession all along? Don’t you think he went to the chief police officer to expose the truth?”
Tina and Claire were speechless. Their faces turned gray, as if death had come for them.
Austin sat down helplessly.
“Austin, Austin, you have to save your little sister!” Clabe inched closer. “I’ve contacted your aunt. She gave us her word. If you say yes to her conditions…”
“She’ll take care of everything,” she finished.
He was already on the brink of exhaustion, but after hearing that, a chill swept across his face. “I would agree to her terms. Neither would Luke,” he said.
“Why? All she wanted was for you to join a business association; she told me it was beneficial and would be a win-win situation,” she added quickly.
“Win-win my ass!” He couldn’t help but curse.
“Look, you won’t understand. Just listen to me and stay away from that snake. Everyone who gets involved with her ends up in ruins. The Locke Family is already in deep shit, and now you want her tampering with ours?”
The business association was nothing but a front. What she really wanted was for them to become her pawns. Once they were forced into becoming accomplices, there would be no way out.
If he had to pick a side in the Locke family, he’d be a fool to side with a snake who relied on malicious ploys to stay in power. It was bound to come to an end.
It would have made more sense to build a closer relationship with Eden than to fall for her schemes.
“Don’t think of her so badly. Yes, she’s ruthless with her enemies, but she treats family well. Please, do it for your sister,” Claire pleaded.
“Don’t bother begging him for help!” Tina shot Austin a furious glare. “It doesn’t matter if he won’t help me. Luke will!”
She reached for her phone on the bedside table, ready to call him, but Claire snatched it away.
“D-Don’t call him. He’s not coming.”
“What do you mean he’s not coming? I’m his wife. Of course, he’s coming! Give me the phone!” she snapped and grabbed it back.
“He already came.”
“What?” Tina’s hand froze. “Then where is he?”
“He went back to Halewick,” Austin responded expressionlessly. “He called me earlier. He said if it’s true that you murdered someone, he’d have no choice but to call off the wedding.”
Tina’s eyes widened, and she suddenly lost control. “No! He wouldn’t do that to me! No way! You’re lying! Our wedding will still proceed as planned!”
She screamed and tried to get up. Blood seeped through the bandages on her shoulders and hands.
Claire couldn’t bear to see her like that and told her the truth.
“Don’t be foolish! Do you know how cruel Luke is? He saw you getting chased down by Jade and left you to die! That man has no heart!”
“You wouldn’t be happy even if you married him. So forget it. We’re not going through with the marriage; we’ll raise the baby ourselves once you give birth,” Claire said.
“The baby?” Austin scoffed. At the mention of it, he rubbed his forehead and sneered, “I just asked the doctor if the baby was okay. He told me she’s not pregnant.”
“Y-You’re not pregnant?” Claire asked, stunned.
Tina remained silent.
Back in Halewick, it had been easy to bribe a doctor and fake her story, especially with Felicia’s help forging the pregnancy records. But now that she was in Ashtead, she didn’t have time to make any special arrangements, and the truth was out.
Dane was lost in thought.
“I don’t know what she did to get Mrs. Mu to go along and deceive Luke, but I just don’t get it. He’s not the only man in the world. Why are you so hung up on Luke?” Austin asked. “It’s obvious he hates you to his core.”
“That’s why that explains everything,” Claire muttered to herself.
She continued, “He knew about the fake pregnancy all along and despised her for it. So he teamed up with Vespera and uncovered what really happened five years ago, just to get rid of Tina!”
Tina’s face turned dark and cold. A new thought struck her. It wasn’t Luke who teamed up with Vespera. It was Felicia. It had to be her.
