A few minutes passed, and she showed no signs of stopping. Luke’s frown deepened by the second.
At that moment, Rebecca’s phone buzzed with a notification. As she unlocked the phone with facial recognition, a pair of slender yet firm hands snatched it away.

Chapter 98
“Luke! How can you just grab my phone like that?” Rebecca had to focus on both driving and keeping an eye on the road, making it impossible to snatch her phone back.
In the meantime, Luke had already opened her WhatsApp and seen the new message. As expected, it was from Vespera. She said she was waiting at a diner in a nearby town.
Not only did he read that message, but he also scrolled through the previous ones. His grip on the phone was so tight that his veins were bulging, as if he might crush it in his hand.
So, it was Dominic who had taken her away. Which meant he had been keeping an eye on her all along. Even Rebecca could see his intentions were far from pure, yet Vespera still dared to claim they were innocent.
Despite threatening to set Rebecca’s car on fire, he responded with a simple “okay.” Then, he set a navigation point to the diner and ordered Rebecca to drive them there. He even threatened to throw her phone out and drive the car himself if she refused to comply.
Rebecca thought to herself, “How did I end up running into this living nightmare?”
Considering he seemed on the verge of losing control, she didn’t dare defy him. She valued her life, after all. Vespera never imagined she would run into Luke, let alone be “taken hostage” by him.
With one message, she had completely given away her location.
Not long after getting into the car, her stomach growled. Dominic noticed it and turned the car toward a small town. At this hour, most restaurants were closed, leaving only a barbecue stall and a diner still open.
She chose the diner.
While waiting for Rebecca, Vespera even sent her a message, figuring she probably hadn’t eaten dinner either, and ordered an additional meal with extra meat.
Dominic gave a knowing smile. “So, you do have a conscience after all.”
“Huli? Oh, yeah. Do you like spicy food, Mr. Reid?”
Although she reacted quickly and adapted her words promptly, Dominic still managed to catch the fleeting hint of confusion. That was when he came to realize that he had somehow misunderstood. It wasn’t ordered for him at all.
“You’re only asking now, after you’ve placed the order? Isn’t that a bit too late?”
“Not at all,” Vespera pointed to the hot sauce and some other spices on the table, “You can always add them to your taste.”
Dominic’s expression remained calm as he said, “Be honest with me, did you actually order it for me?”
“Yes, of course! Who else would I order it for?” Vespera blinked nervously at him, her eyes widened with feigned sincerity.
It was like a gift meant for someone else that had been mistakenly claimed by an employer.
What could she do? She might as well have had to go along with it. It’s not like she could take it back and say, “Oh, no. This isn’t for you,” could she?
Even the title of “valuable asset” had its limits.
