Chapter 239

Anastasia dodged Narissa’s attack, but Narissa was so worked up that she lost her balance and nearly fell over.

After steadying herself, Narissa blamed everything on Anastasia.

“You bitch!”

While Narissa kept flailing around aggressively, Sharlene stepped protectively in front of Anastasia.

“Don’t think having someone shield you will save you!” Narissa’s eyes darted around, looking for an opening to attack.

“Starting a fight before getting your facts straight just shows how reckless you are,” Anastasia said calmly.

“Reckless?” Narissa’s voice shot up an octave. “Only four people were there that day – Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, you, and Vincent. If it wasn’t you, who else could it be?”

Anastasia raised an eyebrow. “You said it yourself – if not me, who else?”

Narissa froze, her brow furrowing as she shook her head in confusion. “No… that’s impossible.”

“Standing here guessing won’t solve anything. Let’s go ask him directly,” Anastasia said, heading straight for Vincent’s office.

Narissa hesitated for a moment, then followed. “I don’t believe it,” she snorted.

They reached Vincent’s office together. Anastasia closed the door and locked it. “Nobody leaves until we get to the bottom of this.”

Vincent frowned, annoyance flashing in his eyes. “Anastasia, who gave you the authority to do this?”

“What’s wrong, Vincent? Feeling guilty?” Anastasia challenged.

Vincent’s eyes flickered nervously. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Anastasia shrugged. “Playing dumb is fine. You’ll regret it soon enough.”

Narissa looked at Vincent anxiously. “Vincent, tell her! You didn’t spread that story in the group chat, right?”

“What story?” Vincent continued his act.

Narissa shot Anastasia a triumphant look that seemed to say, See? He doesn’t even know what we’re talking about!

Anastasia looked at Narissa and laughed coldly. “This is exactly why I call you stupid. Used and discarded, and you still don’t get it.”

“Shut up, Anastasia! You think you’re so high and mighty? You’ve been seducing Mr. Orlando too!” Narissa snarled.

“Even if I was going after Griffin, at least I have better taste than you. And I bet you tried hitting on him too, but he wasn’t interested.”

“Ahh… shut up!”

Narissa was absolutely livid—Anastasia had hit the nail on the head!

“Bad taste and stupid – thrown away and you’re still blaming the wrong person.”

Anastasia turned to Vincent, who was awkwardly touching his nose. He’d worked his way up to manager; did she really have to sound so pathetic?

“Vincent, surely you know that even if you added your alt account to the group chat ages ago, the group admin can still trace who added which members, right?”

Vincent actually didn’t know that. He immediately felt guilty.

“Fortunately, the company is fair – they won’t wrongfully accuse anyone,” Anastasia continued. She paused dramatically. “But they also won’t let anyone get away with wrongdoing.”

“Vincent, handle your own mess and stop trying to drag me down with you. Otherwise, I’ll escalate this upstairs, and it won’t be something you can smooth over with a few words.”

With that, Anastasia turned around, opened the door, and left. Being somewhat considerate, she even closed the door behind them. Seeing Anastasia emerge unscathed, Sharlene breathed a sigh of relief and happily went to meet her. Of course, some people were disappointed by the outcome. If Narissa still didn’t understand what had happened at this point, she was beyond help.

Narissa glared at Vincent furiously. “Why? Why did you do this to me? Haven’t I been good to you? I’ve given you everything!” She’d given him her whole self – what more did he want?

Actually, that day when she and Vincent went to the hospital, it was because she was pregnant. Vincent didn’t want the baby and made her go to terminate it. She’d made a scene and threatened to cause trouble at his house unless he came with her. So Vincent had reluctantly accompanied her. But the hospital said they couldn’t terminate a healthy pregnancy without medical cause. They’d had to leave and find a back-alley clinic instead. Narissa had come to work the next day pretending nothing happened, even though she was in agony.

Vincent laughed coldly, looking at Narissa without any of his previous tenderness. “Narissa, stop acting like you’re some victim. You know damn well we’ve been using each other this whole time. You traded your body for what you wanted. All these years with me, you got all the big accounts, the good clients.”

“But isn’t that how it should be? Without those benefits, why would I be with a…” middle-aged, greasy loser like you?

“Whatever, I’m done talking. I’ll give you fifty grand. Let’s end this. My wife came here today making a scene, everyone knows about your situation now. You can’t stay here anymore, right?”

Narissa’s eyes welled up with tears. “So everything you did was just to get rid of me, wasn’t it?”

“Exactly.” Vincent didn’t bother hiding it anymore – the cat was already out of the bag.

“Fifty thousand? You think I’m some beggar? You know exactly how much you’ve skimmed off the top all these years.” Since they were already past the point of no return, Narissa stopped being polite. “I’ve saved all our chat logs about me entertaining those clients, plus some intimate photos… If you don’t want me exposing everything, transfer three hundred thousand to me right now! Once I get it, I’m gone.”

Vincent’s eyes blazed with fury. After all these years, he’d been raising a snake!

“Three hundred thousand? Not happening! Narissa had been passed around by God knows how many men – she wasn’t worth that much!

“Fine then. I’ll post all that evidence in the company-wide group chat right now. Let everyone see what kind of person you really are!”

“Vincent, don’t be penny wise and pound-foolish!”

Vincent’s face was dark as storm clouds, but he gritted his teeth and transferred the money to Narissa.

Narissa took the money and left, completely satisfied.

Soon after, Vincent called Anastasia back into his office with a grim expression. “Narissa’s gone. Are you happy now?”

Anastasia looked at Vincent – a grown man acting like a coward, hiding when he screwed up, and he was pretty good at deflecting blame too, and still hadn’t even gone to check on his wife. Heartless.
