Chapter 242

After taking the call, Jasper sobered up considerably. He'd been drunk and used his assistant's phone to call Anastasia repeatedly, but she never picked up. He thought she’d blocked his assistant’s number too. Just when he was about to give up, someone finally answered Anastasia's phone, saying she was at the police station. At first he thought it was a scam call, but after asking more questions, he jolted awake in shock. Jasper went to the bathroom and splashed cold water on his face, clearing his head even more. "I need to get home!"

Learning that Anastasia was in trouble, his first instinct was to save her! No matter what, he had to help her!

When Jasper got home, Megan and Valeria were leisurely eating caviar and watching TV. "Val, eat more. This is Ossetra caviar I had flown in today–it's incredibly nutritious. The baby will have the most beautiful complexion," Megan cooed. "Thank you, Mrs. Hale," Valeria replied sweetly. Just then, Jasper came stumbling in frantically. "Mom!" Both Megan and Valeria jumped, thinking Jasper was being chased or injured. When Megan caught the strong scent of alcohol on him, she immediately understood–Jasper had been drinking again. Lately, Jasper had been acting like a madman, getting wasted day and night, often drinking himself unconscious and ignoring everything else. No amount of scolding worked, and when she asked what was wrong, he wouldn't say. But Megan knew exactly why Jasper was losing his mind. She just couldn't understand what was so special about that bitch Anastasia that had Jasper so obsessed. Jasper rushed over to Megan in a panic. "Mom, Director Fury's number–give it to me." Megan's expression changed dramatically. She asked nervously, "Why do you need Director Fury's number? Did you get into trouble again?"

Director Fury was Megan's trump card. They'd been childhood sweethearts, but just before they were set to marry, circumstances changed and he ended up marrying his boss's daughter for a career boost. Director Fury knew he'd wronged Megan, so he promised that if she ever needed a favor–anything at all–he'd help her. But only once. After that, the debt would be paid. Megan knew her family wasn't exactly law-abiding, so she'd been saving this favor for when they really needed it. She'd accidentally let slip about Director Fury owing her, so Jasper knew about it. Megan had said she'd never use this favor unless absolutely necessary. If Jasper was bringing this up, she figured he must be in serious trouble. "It's not me–it's Anastasia. She's been arrested for assault," Jasper said.

Hearing this, Megan relaxed but her voice turned cold: "Use my favor to help that bitch Anastasia? Absolutely not!"

Jasper dropped to his knees in front of Megan–the first time he'd ever knelt before her. "Mom, Anastasia crossed the wrong people. Without Fury's help, she might never get out." "Get up!" Megan snapped coldly. "You've been a walking disaster because of that little slut, and now you're kneeling and begging for her? Have you lost your mind? She's nothing to you now–I won't help her!" "Mom! You know I still love her. I can't live without–" Before Jasper could finish, Megan slapped him hard across the face. "Jasper Hale, you're drunk?" Jasper tasted blood spreading in his mouth. Valeria sat nearby, her fists clenched so tight she nearly drew blood. Damn Jasper! Still obsessing over Anastasia after everything–what the hell did that make her? "Mom, please, I'm begging you. I really can't live without Anastasia. If I lose her, I'll die," Jasper pleaded, tears streaming down his face like a broken man. Seeing Jasper cry completely stunned Megan–she'd never seen her son like this before. Was Anastasia really that important to him? "Enough! Are you even a man? Crying like this over some girl. Fine, I'll make the call," she said with disgust. Jasper looked up at Megan hopefully. Looking at her drunk, snot-and-tear-covered son, Megan was thoroughly disgusted. But she had a plan. "Mom, hurry up and call," Jasper urged. Megan shot Valeria a meaningful look. Valeria went over to distract Jasper with conversation. Megan picked up the phone, said a few words, then hung up. Jasper was too drunk and distracted to hear clearly. "Done. Now go upstairs and sleep it off," Megan ordered. Valeria also gently coaxed Jasper. But Jasper ignored them both and rushed out. Valeria started to follow, but Megan stopped her. "Don't go after him–you're pregnant," Megan told her. She was worried about her grandson. Valeria wasn't really planning to chase him anyway–watching Jasper pine for Anastasia was disgusting. "But what if Jasper finds out you never actually made the call?" Valeria asked worriedly. "I'll never save that bitch Anastasia. Jasper's only acting this way because he's drunk. Once he sobers up, he'll be fine," Megan said dismissively. "Don't overthink it." But inside she was seething with hatred.

Chapter 242

Even if this was just drunk rambling, drunk people had no filter; they spoke from the heart. Valeria had no idea Jasper cared so deeply about Anastasia! What kind of spell had that bitch cast on him?! When Jasper arrived at the police station, it had been eight hours since Anastasia was arrested. He stumbled out of his car, blood streaming down his forehead from where he'd hit something. The blood was covering his eyes, making him look like a complete disaster. He staggered into the station, shouting, "I'm Director Fury's friend! I'm here to pick up Anastasia Kingsley!" Anastasia? The officers exchanged glances. They knew who Anastasia was, but this case was way above Director Fury's pay grade. The word had come down from the top–nobody was getting Anastasia out. Nobody. Jasper made a huge scene at the station, but no one gave a shit. They eventually tossed his drunk ass out on the street for causing a disturbance.
