Chapter 79
After last night, they’d definitely gotten way closer. Any weird feelings Anastasia had been carrying around about Sonia had completely disappeared.
After a while, Cassian finally opened his eyes and looked down at her, that lazy smile spreading across his face. “Morning, Mrs. Rhodes.”
Anastasia’s cheeks went all pink as she whispered back, “Morning…”
Cassian pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his voice warm and teasing. “Say ‘good morning, darling.’”
Anastasia felt shy but complied. “Good morning, darling.”
“Thank you. Last night was amazing.”
“Married. That’s what married couples do.”
Anastasia’s face turned even redder as she mumbled, “Don’t thank me. A…”
Cassian chuckled and pulled her tighter against him. They just lay there for a bit, enjoying this perfect lazy morning together.
Eventually, Anastasia’s stomach started making noise, which made Cassian laugh as he sat up. “Shit, I forgot you’d be starving. Stay here—I’ll whip up some breakfast.”
“I should probably get up too. Tamia’s dragging me shopping this afternoon,” Anastasia said, trying to sit up. Her whole body felt like she’d been hit by a truck—in the best possible way.
By the time Anastasia got herself together, Cassian had breakfast ready and waiting.
“After we eat, I’ll drop you off. Yinsen wants to grab drinks anyway,” Cassian said.
“Perfect,” Anastasia nodded.
Because of how intimate they’d gotten last night, Anastasia still felt a little awkward around Cassian this morning—but in a good way.
After breakfast, Anastasia threw on a flowy maxi dress and did some light makeup before they headed out. She was meeting Tamia at this crazy expensive shopping center in Midtown.
When Anastasia showed up, Tamia was already there waving like a maniac. The second she saw her, Tamia gave her this knowing once-over and grinned. “Holy shit, girl! You are absolutely glowing right now. Someone definitely got laid last night!”
Tamia winked with this huge, shit-eating grin. That comment made Anastasia go bright red as she swatted at her friend. “Oh my God, stop! I look exactly the same as always.”
“Are you kidding me right now?” Tamia grabbed her arm and leaned in close, dropping her voice. “Babe, you’ve got that post-orgasm glow going strong. You’re practically floating on air. So spill—did you and Cassian finally do the deed?”
“Tamia!” Anastasia cut her off, her ears turning scarlet.
Seeing how flustered she was, Tamia cracked up even more. “Okay, okay, I’ll chill. But for real though, that man is totally whipped for you. Personal chauffeur service? Cassian Rhodes doesn’t do shit like that for anyone.”
Anastasia bit her lip, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside but trying to play it off. “He was just going that way anyway. You’re reading way too much into it.”
“Going that way?” Tamia raised an eyebrow. “Since when does a control-freak workaholic like Cassian have time for ‘convenient détours’? Girl, you’re not fooling anybody.”
Anastasia couldn’t help cracking up at how persistent her friend was. “Fine, whatever you say. But please tell me you didn’t drag me out here just to grill me about my sex life?”
“Hell no! I need to buy a new purse and I want your designer eye on it,” Tamia said. Since Anastasia had killer taste, Tamia always wanted her opinion on big purchases.
“Alright, let’s do this then,” Anastasia said, linking arms with her.
Suddenly, Anastasia remembered something from when they’d signed their marriage certificate—Cassian’s birthday was coming up in just a few days. Should she get him a birthday gift?
