Chapter 101
Just as he spoke, Chuck swiftly slapped Aurora across the face without a hint of mercy. Linda, standing nearby, watched with satisfaction.
A trace of blood appeared at the corner of Auroraโs lips.
She lifted her eyes, filled with hatred, and glared at Chuck.
Being stared at made Chuck uneasy, but he couldnโt stop himself from taunting, โWhat? You got a problem with that?โ
As he spoke, he raised his hand, about to strike Aurora again.
A hand caught his wrist and flung it aside with force.
The next second, a kick sent him flying as a low voice warned, โYou got a death wish?โ
Hearing that familiar voice, Aurora opened her eyes.
The man stood against the light, and as she looked up, she met his worried dark eyes.
In that moment, Aurora felt at ease.
Lucas took in the scene โ Auroraโs disheveled clothes, the blood at the corner of her mouth, and the group of men surrounding her.
With just one glance, he understood what had happened.
His eyes turned red with fury.
Giving Aurora a reassuring look, he immediately kicked away the men around her.
As they collapsed to the ground, the leader finally came to his senses. โWho the hell is this guy? Donโt back down, heโs alone!โ
Hearing that, Lucas glanced at him coldly, walked over without a word, and kicked him straight in the groin.
The man who had been mouthing off suddenly went silent.
He rolled away just in time to avoid the deadly blow.
The others, seeing Lucasโ terrifying presence, didnโt dare make a move.
โWho are you? What are you doing here?โ Chuck still hadnโt given up. โDo you know who this woman is? Sheโs mine now, and youโre on my turf. Where the hell did you come from?โ
Ignoring him completely, Lucas kicked again, hitting the same spot as before.
This time, he wasnโt going to let Chuck off easy.
The other two thugs, seeing how strong Lucas was, quietly backed away.
Lucas glanced at them, and both of them quickly raised their hands, signaling they knew nothing.
โHey man, we were just following orders. Donโt take it out on us. I really donโt know anything."
โYeah, and this womanโs got a fierce temper. We didnโt even get close to herโฆโ
Before he could finish, Lucas kicked him, sending him flying.
With a cold, hard gaze, Lucas had no interest in wasting words. โSave it for your time in prison."
Just as he spoke, sirens blared outside.
As the sound grew nearer, Lucas bent down and scooped Aurora into his arms, holding her in a princess carry.
His eyes filled with pain and guilt as he looked down at her.
โIโm sorry, Rora. I got here too late.โ
Aurora gave him a faint smile and shook her head, telling him she was okay.
Her face was still dirty, and her clothes torn and tattered.
But at that moment, she felt a rare sense of peace.
The moment she saw Lucas, the heavy weight in her heart lifted.
Hearing the approaching sirens, Linda stopped worrying about Chuck, who was still lying on the ground.
She turned and made a dash for the back door.
Lucasโ eyes narrowed.
He kicked a rock from the ground, and it hit the back of Lindaโs knee squarely.
She let out a cry as her leg buckled, collapsing to the floor.
Looking up at Lucas holding Aurora in his arms, she clenched her fists in silence.
Why did that bitch Aurora get to have everything?!
