Chapter 1051
Grace could tell something was off, but since they were outside, she still had to protect her daughter’s dignity. She couldn’t admit she had come to back her daughter up, only for her daughter to end up being questioned instead.
“What, you think you have the right to question my daughter?” Grace found it laughable. “It was your people who failed to keep watch over him.”
“Besides, your son caused my daughter such serious harm. Now that he hasn’t been sent to prison, she’s shocked–doesn’t that seem perfectly normal to you?”
At her words, the butler and Albert exchanged a glance. Although they found it odd, neither said anything more. After all, Grace did have a point.
Albert nodded in agreement. “Yes, yes, Madam Grace, you’re right. I was too presumptuous and didn’t think it through. As for the current situation, I honestly don’t know what to do.” Albert gave an awkward smile. “To tell you the truth, I’ve been searching for him these past few days. My unfilial son even took my bank card and ran off.”
Tessa broke into a sweat. “You mean there’s no news at all?”
“Miss Walton, there’s truly no news,” Albert said with a hint of dry amusement. “If I may say something off-topic… Miss Walton, no matter what, my son was once your fiancé. Do you really want him sent to prison?”
The latter half of his words came slowly, each syllable striking Tessa’s heart like a weight. Her chest felt heavy, but she forced herself to remain composed.
“Mr. Hayes, since you admit it’s off-topic, then there’s no need to bring it up again. Just as my mother said, he caused me to lose my voice. How could I possibly still have feelings for him? Don’t you think that’s a bit far-fetched?”
Being put on the spot by a junior left Albert feeling displeased. But in the end, he still said nothing.
He slowly straightened up. “Alright then. Since you’ve made yourself clear, I have nothing more to say. If you have no feelings for my son, I can rest easy. I was only worried you might not be able to let go when the time came.”
Tessa let out a soft laugh, her gaze full of disdain. “Rest easy. After the way I’ve been treated, if I still couldn’t let him go, wouldn’t that make me a masochist?”
Before Albert could respond, Grace cut in impatiently. “Enough. Is this why I brought my daughter here today–to discuss these things with you? Isn’t your family the one at fault here? How is it you’re turning around to question me and my daughter?”
Albert looked embarrassed. After all, they were clearly in the right. “Then what should we do now?”
“I’ve already told you everything I know,” Albert said helplessly. “It’s not that I don’t want to hand him over to you. The truth is, I have no one to hand over.”
The butler also looked toward Grace with expectation, hoping she wouldn’t keep pressing the Hayes family. After all, the person at the center of this matter was already gone. If they kept entangling themselves in it, there would still be no resolution, and everyone would just waste more time. If the Hayes family ended up being targeted again, where would he go to find another job? This job, truth be told, was one he was still quite satisfied with.
