Aurora glanced down at the documents in her hand, wondering if she should find another excuse later to ask her mother what exactly they were hiding from her. She curved her lips into a faint smile and walked toward Grace’s office. Raising her hand, she knocked on the door, and upon hearing a response from inside, she stepped in.
Grace was busy with matters for the banquet, scrolling through online discussions about the Walton Corporation, keeping a close watch for any new developments. Lately, there had been plenty of talk online about both the Hayes and Walton families. Some were even speculating whether the two families would never work together again. It had to be said–netizens’ powers of observation were impressively sharp. Even the smallest incident could be blown out of proportion. And they always seemed able to catch subtle hints that others missed–there was no doubting that. In the end, what they said often turned out to be true. That was why Grace was checking online now, to see if there were any such claims about a rift between the two families. If anyone posted anything unfavorable about the Walton Corporation, Grace would have it deleted immediately, or she would hire PR teams to post positive statements about the corporation. This way, many issues could be resolved without much trouble. It was called shaping perception first–creating the illusion that the Walton Corporation was far superior to the Hayes family.
So, when Grace saw Aurora walk in, she was a little surprised. Unless absolutely necessary, her younger daughter almost never came to her. She had no idea what the visit was for today.
“What brings you here?” Grace lifted her eyes from the phone screen and stared directly at Aurora. She wanted to see exactly what her daughter’s purpose was.
Aurora, however, wasn’t surprised by her mother’s tone. By now, she should have been used to it–shouldn’t she? All these years, had she really stayed trapped in her old way of thinking, unable to move on? That was clearly unrealistic. Aurora simply smiled and handed over the file on her phone. “Madam Grace, of course I have a reason for coming to you. You can take a look at this report. The data compares us with the Hunt family recently. Of course, I mean the Hunts in Westbridge.”
At that, Grace’s interest was instantly piqued. Back when Aurora had been bedridden for a month, she had already noticed the Hunts’ predatory watchfulness. It had weighed on her mind ever since, like a sword hanging over her head. Now, with Aurora pointing the matter out directly, she couldn’t have been more pleased.
“Alright, let me take a closer look.”
Aurora said nothing more, just kept a faint, almost innocent smile on her face as she watched her mother. Under her gaze, Grace–rarely–actually felt a little unsettled. She gave a cold snort and skimmed through the file at lightning speed. After finishing, her appreciation for Aurora only grew.
“Yes, this is quite good,” Grace praised. “Compared to before, you’ve made a lot of progress. And your approach to dealing with the Hunts is the most up-to-date strategy in the market right now. As long as it’s implemented step by step, there shouldn’t be any major problems.”
