Otherwise, none of what followed would have happened. But all of that was already in the past. Grace had no intention of bringing it up again. All she wanted was for her two daughters to live out their lives in happinessโif she could ensure that, she would feel her lifeโs work was complete. As for everything else, she would deal with it when the time came. Right now, she simply didnโt have the energy to manage it all. It was trueโpeople did better focusing on one thing at a time. When too many matters piled up at once, there was no way to keep up.
Aurora studied her motherโs expression. She was suspicious, but without proof, there was nothing she could do. She would have to wait, then slowly look into it later. After all, she knew her motherโs temperament. If she kept pressing now, it would make things unpleasant for both of them, and theyโd lose face. Aurora also knew her mother was a woman who guarded her pride fiercely. So, it was better not to push further.
When she finally left, she closed the door behind her. Only after seeing it shut completely did Grace release a long breath. Relief washed over herโshe didnโt have to face Aurora any longer. God knew sheโd had no idea how to answer her daughterโs questions just moments ago. If Jason had been caught by Aurora then, there would have been no need for any explanation; her daughter would have investigated on her own. And there certainly wouldnโt have been that harmonious mother-and-daughter scene later.
Grace immediately called Jason to ask exactly what had happened earlier. If they were found out, moving forward would be much more difficult. Right now, the reason Aurora was so devoted to the Walton Corporation was because she still valued her mother. If the day ever came when she no longer acknowledged her, when she stopped taking her seriously, then what would be the point of the company? There wouldnโt be one. It was precisely because Grace understood her daughterโs temperament so well that she knew how serious this was. She could not let Aurora discover the truth. If she did, both she and the company would be finished.
Jason was in the middle of his work outside when he saw Graceโs call flash on his phone. His whole body stiffened. He didnโt understand why she was calling him now. She had never done this before when he was out on an errand. Though there was a knot of worry and fear in his chest, he still answered. After all, this was his boss. No matter how bold he might be, he couldnโt just ignore her.
The moment Grace heard him pick up, her tone turned sharp, cutting straight to the point. โJason, what did you say to Miss Aurora when you left?โ
Jason was completely baffled. โMadam Grace, I didnโt say anything.โ
Grace clearly didnโt believe him. โAre you telling me the truth? If I find out youโve lied to me, you know exactly what will happen to you.โ
Jasonโs mind flickered to memories of her past methods, and he swallowed hard. But he stuck to his story. โMadam Grace, I really didnโt say anything. I did run into Miss Aurora at the door, and she asked me what I was heading out to do.โ
