Chapter 1084
Graceโs expression finally eased a little when she heard Jasonโs voice.
Sure enough, if she didnโt threaten him a little, he would never speak to her honestly.
โAnd what did you say after that?โ
Grace wasnโt about to let even the smallest detail slip past.
After all, she had noticed Auroraโs attitude just now.
If Jason hadnโt said something, why else would her daughter be suspicious?
That was simply unrealisticโlaughable, even.
Jasonโs mind went blank at her question, unable to recall exactly what he had said earlier.
The only thing he was certain of was that he hadnโt said anything out of line.
So, when faced with her questioning, he could still push back with confidence.
โMadam Grace, I donโt know what someone else might have told you, but I can assure you, I didnโt say anything I shouldnโt have.
โThatโs something you can be absolutely certain of.โ
At that, Grace lifted a brow.
Even over the phone, she could hear the conviction in his voice.
It seemed this really had nothing to do with him.
โAlright, then thereโs nothing more to discuss.โ
She followed the slap with a sweetener. โAs long as you handle what Iโve assigned you, youโll get your share of the rewards.โ
Jason broke into a relieved smile, giving his assurance with full sincerity. โDonโt worry, Madam Grace, I know my boundaries.
โAfter working by your side all these years, you know exactly the kind of man I am.โ
On that point, Grace truly couldnโt disagree.
She wasnโt a foolโshe knew Jasonโs words were nothing more than a show of loyalty.
Still, she had to admit he had a point.
After all, he had been by her side for so many years. If he were truly incompetent, she wouldnโt have kept him around this long.
Besides, she trusted his character.
โAlright, I understand. Just focus on completing what Iโve assigned you. I have other matters to attend to, so Iโll hang up now.โ
Jason replied that he understood.
Only after Grace ended the call did he let out a long sigh into the phone.
Those two women were nearly impossible to please.
He had never realized it before.
Dealing with Aurora had been trouble enough, and now he still had to explain himself to Grace.
Both of them were equally difficult, one no easier to handle than the other. Just thinking about it made his head pound.
Still, it didnโt matter. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
In all his years at the Walton Corporation, his salary had always been much higher than most peopleโs.
His pay matched the effort he put in.
With that in mind, hope flickered back to life on his face.
All he had to do was keep looking forward and do his job wellโthere was nothing to worry about.
As for Grace, he could still carry out her instructions properly.
Whatever else could be said about her, her principles were sound.
At least she hadnโt done anything truly criminal, so even if he was helping with her affairs, his conscience felt no guilt.
Working by her side was something he could continue to do.
Meanwhile, after hanging up the phone, Grace turned her attention back to the report Aurora had brought her earlier.
She realized her daughter truly had a sharp mind for business.
