Grace’s expression finally eased a little when she heard Jason’s voice.

Sure enough, if she didn’t threaten him a little, he would never speak to her honestly.

“And what did you say after that?”

Grace wasn’t about to let even the smallest detail slip past.

After all, she had noticed Aurora’s attitude just now.

If Jason hadn’t said something, why else would her daughter be suspicious?

“Madam Grace, I don’t know what someone else might have told you, but I can assure you, I didn’t say anything I shouldn’t have.

At that, Grace lifted a brow.

Even over the phone, she could hear the conviction in his voice.

It seemed this really had nothing to do with him.

“Alright, then there’s nothing more to discuss.”

She followed the slap with a sweetener. “As long as you handle what I’ve assigned you, you’ll get your share of the rewards.”

Jason broke into a relieved smile, giving his assurance with full sincerity. “Don’t worry, Madam Grace, I know my boundaries.

“After working by your side all these years, you know exactly the kind of man I am.”

On that point, Grace truly couldn’t disagree.

She wasn’t a fool—she knew Jason’s words were nothing more than a show of loyalty.

Still, she had to admit he had a point.

After all, he had been by her side for so many years. If he were truly incompetent, she wouldn’t have kept him around this long.

Besides, she trusted his character.

“Alright, I understand. Just focus on completing what I’ve assigned you. I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll hang up now.”

Jason replied that he understood.

Only after Grace ended the call did he let out a long sigh into the phone.

Those two women were nearly impossible to please.

He had never realized it before.

Dealing with Aurora had been trouble enough, and now he still had to explain himself to Grace.

Both of them were equally difficult, one no easier to handle than the other. Just thinking about it made his head pound.
