Ian finally felt relieved. At least he hadn’t let Aurora down. Still, why was this man so hard to reach? And what’s more, even after his scandals had already been exposed, he could still remain unscathed in the industry. That could only mean there was another power backing him. A chill ran down Ian’s spine. It seemed that anyone who could survive in this circle must have some unusual connections. He rubbed his arms and decided it was best to stay within his own lane. If anything happened, at least he would have Aurora supporting him. That alone was enough to keep him steady on his feet.

Ian also knew that Aurora had a good temperament. As long as he worked diligently under her, she would never treat him unfairly. He understood that well.

Meanwhile, after hanging up the phone, the secretary wrote down the Walton Corporation’s name and number. She was a bit puzzled–her boss‘ number was public knowledge. For a company as prominent as the Walton Corporation, she knew it well. If they had called him directly, they could have scheduled the appointment right away. Yet instead, they had chosen to call her. It struck her as odd.

The secretary immediately called the partner, and this time, the phone was picked up instantly. “Mr. Lewis, when will you be back~?” she purred.

Daniel Lewis was in the middle of something, his voice slightly breathless as he replied, “What is it? I’m busy here.”

The secretary touched her nose, feeling a flicker of embarrassment. With Daniel, she only needed to hear his voice to know exactly what he was in the middle of. Hesitating, she said, “Um, Mr. Lewis, I was wondering–about tomorrow’s appointment with the Walton Corporation, what time should I set it for you?”

“The Walton Corporation?” Daniel suddenly sat upright. The moment he heard that, his mind went blank. “When did I ever schedule something with them?”

The secretary was just as confused. “But… they just called me. It’s the Walton Corporation–you know, it’s pretty well-known.”

Daniel’s voice shot up. “Alright, I know the company. What I’m asking is, who agreed to this appointment with them?”

The secretary was at a loss for words. She bit her lip before stammering, “But… their company is famous, isn’t it? If we worked with them, wouldn’t it be nothing but good for us?”

Daniel’s temper flared. “Enough, I know what you mean. You went ahead and made this decision on your own. Save your explanations–just go straight to–”

The secretary froze, as if struck by lightning. She couldn’t understand how she had managed to offend Daniel. Her voice trembled with tears. “Mr. Lewis, I haven’t done anything wrong, have I? Why all of a sudden? If I’ve done something wrong, you can just tell me directly. I don’t want to be fired, please, Mr. Lewis.”

But no matter how prettily she cried, Daniel remained unmoved. Women like her were a dime a dozen in his world. And the thing he hated most was a woman who took matters into her own hands. Keeping a foolish woman like that around would only jeopardize his business.

“Enough. No more talking.”
