Lucas’ expression faltered, his heart giving a sharp jolt. The question caught him off guard–why now, of all times? “Haven’t I told you before?” he answered with a faint smile, dodging neatly. “It’s just the family business. I’ve mentioned it before. We even work with Vanguard Group from time to time.”
Aurora suddenly leaned closer, her soft fragrance curling around him, leaving his mind blank. For a moment, he couldn’t think of a single thing to say. “But I can’t help feeling you’re the kind of man who can do anything,” she teased, eyes curved with laughter. “Maybe I’ve put some kind of filter on you, thinking you can handle everything perfectly?” Her words left Lucas speechless. All he could see was her bright, smiling face, those lips parting and closing, the quick glimpse of her soft tongue slipping playfully between her teeth. His throat tightened. What nonsense was running through his mind–he just wanted to kiss her. The thought shocked even him. Aurora waved a hand in front of his face. “What is it? Why so quiet? Don’t tell me you’re some hidden heir and keeping it from me on purpose…” The next second, her chatter was cut off as his lips captured hers. Without hesitation, he pressed firmly, finding her soft mouth with unerring precision.
Aurora’s eyes widened, startled, completely unprepared. Hadn’t they just been talking? How had it suddenly turned into this? She pushed weakly at his chest, but Lucas didn’t budge. The moment she leaned in close, his mind had already stopped working altogether.
That was nothing less than a test of his patience, especially since he had already held himself back for so long. His kiss deepened with passion, but Aurora felt a wave of displeasure rise within her. She began twisting her waist, refusing to cooperate with Lucas. The next second, his large hand landed without warning on her backside. The light smack wasn’t loud or painful, but Aurora felt as though her dignity had been ground into the floor. How had she not realized before just how shameless this man could be! Her eyes brimmed with hot tears, and she bit down on him fiercely. Lucas winced and released her at once, the sting forcing him back. “Honey, why did you bite me?” he asked with a trace of grievance. Aurora’s words of reproach caught in her throat, muddled the instant he called her “honey.” Flustered, she stammered, “You… you did that on purpose!” Lucas leaned closer with a teasing smile. “Rora, how was it on purpose? I don’t know what you mean.” Aurora shot back, “You deliberately changed the subject. Don’t think I didn’t notice.” Lucas scratched the back of his head, surprised she’d caught on so quickly. Still, there was no way he’d admit it. Some things required the right time before he could tell her the truth.
