Chapter 1110

It was all too sudden, and Lucas truly didn’t know how to explain.

He let out a sigh. “Rora, I’ve already told you about my family before.”

“Then you didn’t lie to me?”

Aurora’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her lashes damp, the corners of her eyes tinged red.

One glance at her like this was enough to stir every ounce of protectiveness in him.

Seeing her so fragile filled Lucas with guilt.

But worried that their newly softened relationship might unravel, he forced himself to swallow the truth and speak a lie.

“Rora, I would never deceive you. How could I bear to?” His voice was earnest.

But inside, he loathed himself for it.

Someday, he promised, he would make it up to her.

Aurora studied him, and at last she simply nodded. “Alright, I believe you.”

“Go on, eat before the noodles clump together,” Lucas reminded gently.

He watched as Aurora finished the rest of her meal.

Only after that did the two of them fall asleep in each other’s arms.

When Aurora went to work the next day, she discussed with Ian the timing of the contract signing.

Ian carefully went over the schedule, adjusted his glasses, and offered his suggestion.

“Miss Aurora, I think it would be best after the banquet. Following up on the project will take quite a bit of effort.”

Aurora listened thoughtfully. “You’re right.”

“Then let’s do as you suggest.” She handed him the file. “Don’t forget to send Daniel a message.”

“Of course, Miss Aurora.” Ian gave a small nod and was just about to leave when Aurora called him back.

“Have someone keep an eye on Daniel, see if he makes contact with Joseph.”

Ian noticed the dark look on Aurora’s face and couldn’t help asking, “Miss Aurora, you still don’t trust Mr. Daniel, do you?”

“Yes. I keep worrying he might team up with Joseph to go against our company,” Aurora admitted with concern. “If that really happens, then we need to be fully prepared.”

Ian felt a chill–Aurora’s foresight was truly sharp.

No wonder she was the one sitting in the boss’s chair.

It was only right for someone with her brains to lead.

He nodded solemnly. “Understood, Miss Aurora. I’ll carry out your orders exactly as you’ve instructed.”

Only then did Aurora relax and nod.

Ian had been with her for years and was always reliable–she trusted him completely.

That was why she felt secure entrusting him with something so discreet.

If it had been anyone else, she really would have worried.

After Ian left the office, Aurora turned back to her work.

“What did you just say–they’ve already met?”

Joseph shot to his feet, staring at his assistant in disbelief.

The assistant nodded cautiously. “Y–yes, sir. Last night, at Day Light Restaurant.”

Joseph’s vision went dark, nearly losing his balance.

That two-faced snake Daniel–was everything he’d said before nothing but lies?

They had agreed on terms, and now suddenly none of it counted?

Joseph drew a deep breath, forcing down his fury. “Other than that, did they say anything else?”

The assistant shook his head. “No, sir. They haven’t met again since.”

Joseph sank back into his chair, staring at the contract in front of him, feeling as if all his earlier efforts had become nothing more than a cruel joke.
