Chapter 1200
But as Leonard watched Megan working busily, he couldnโt bring himself to say anything.
Forget it, heโd find another chance to explain someday.
A wave of disappointment swept over him.
Letting Megan see through his feelings left him unsettled, like heโd lost something he couldnโt name.
He had thought heโd hidden it well, but clearly, he was fooling no one.
He hurried over to help her move the plants, though his whole body felt awkward.
Megan, however, didnโt care about such details.
Instead, she gave him a sharp look and said seriously, โAlright, if youโre here to move the plants, then keep your focus on them. Stop overthinking everything else.โ
โI wasnโt trying to make it a big deal,โ she added quickly. โI just pointed out what was obvious โ thatโs all. Donโt read too much into it.โ
Seeing Leonardโs stiff, uncomfortable expression, she instantly regretted saying anything. But the words had slipped out faster than her brain could stop them.
โItโs fine, I wonโt take it the wrong way,โ Leonard replied quickly, seizing on a change of subject. โBy the way, whereโs Aurora? I havenโt seen her.โ
The second the words left his mouth, he wished he could bite his tongue off.
Heโd only meant to steer the conversation elsewhere, but somehow heโd landed on the most awkward topic possible.
The air between them grew heavier, almost painfully so. Even Megan, usually oblivious to such tension, picked up on it this time.
She cleared her throat lightly, as if to smooth over the moment.
โAuroraโs busy handling the contract. She should be here soon โ after all, the renovation plans are pretty important.โ
โWhenโs the opening?โ Leonard asked earnestly, as though nothing awkward had happened at all.
But inside, he was kicking himself.
Could it be that spending more time around Megan was rubbing off on him?
Sometimes he spoke without thinking, blurting out whatever came to mind.
Now, looking back, he regretted it. Was he really that careless โ or was it because, deep down, he did have different feelings for Megan?
โOpeningโs at the start of next month โ half a month from now,โ Megan sighed, clearly weighed down.
โSo, Aurora and I are tied up with renovations. Once the dateโs set, it canโt be changed. We even asked someone to pick it for us.โ
โYou two actually believe in that sort of thing?โ Leonard couldnโt help but laugh.
โOf course we do,โ Megan shot back, dead serious. โBetter safe than sorry. And Iโm warning you โ donโt you dare make fun of it.โ
She looked so stern she seemed ready to clap a hand over his mouth at any second.
Leonard clamped his lips shut, nodding solemnly. โAlright, my bad. Next time Iโll treat it with the proper respect.โ
โThatโs better.โ
Megan gave his shoulder a firm pat, her tone mock-solemn. โBuddy, just stick with me and get this work done. Aurora will be back soon, and we need all these plants moved out.โ
โGot it, donโt worry,โ Leonard replied.
